Five Pillars Of Statehood

FIVE PILLARS OF STATEHOOD

Story from Lragir.am News:

Published: 15:55:38 – 22/10/2012

The former foreign minister of Armenia Vartan Oskanian posted on his
Facebook wall about the five pillars of statehood, which, according to
him, are Armenia-Artsakh union and victory, army, church, Constitution
and Diaspora.

According to him, we shouldn’t undermine the Armenia-Artsakh unity.

The threats and encroachment of Azerbaijan cannot enchain us and
cannot justify our idleness relating to democratic, human rights
issues and economic development.

The second pillar is physical security/army. According to him, the
army which was formed during the Karabakh war is the security nucleus
which people should trust unconditionally.

Apostolic faith/church – Vartan Oskanian writes that after the collapse
of the Soviet Union the people believe that besides having a spiritual
role the church should also have a national role. Vartan Oskanian says
the church should issue a brave position, sometimes contradictory to
the authorities.

State institutions/Constitution – according to Vartan Oskanian, this
is the weakest pillar of Armenia. Constitutional breaches weaken the
trust of people towards law. Oskanian says the fully-fledged and
functioning state institutions can be achieved only by means of a
change of government through elections.

According to Vartan Oskanian, the Diaspora has had an important role
in the creation of the Armenian statehood. Vartan Oskanian says all
the pillars are existent. The security and development of Armenia in
the next decades will depend on them.

It Is Unreasonable To Look For Georgian Electoral Reality In Armenia

IT IS UNREASONABLE TO LOOK FOR GEORGIAN ELECTORAL REALITY IN ARMENIA. TRAIAN HRISTEA

ARMENPRESS
OCTOBER 22, 2012
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 22, ARMENPRESS: There is no point in making
comparisons between Armenian and Georgian parliamentary elections,
it would be better to evaluate its own capabilities on the basis of
legislative criteria. This was declared by Ambassador Traian Hristea,
Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia.

According to Andrei Sorokin Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, both
positive and negative episodes of Armenian and Georgian parliamentary
elections could be pointed out.

“The parliamentary elections were won neither by Ivanishvili nor by
Saakahsvili, Georgian Constitution is considered to be the winner.

Saakashvili had enough courage to acknowledge the failure of his party
and to restore Ivanishvili’s citizenship. The elections were successful
enough, not enough for being an example, but we can pay tribute to
the defeated party” Sorokin said according to Armenpress, adding that
Armenia recorded fair and transparent elections in its manner.

Trop peu nombreux,
ils n’effectuent aucune arrestation.

Czech Parliamentary Committee Adopts Resolution On Safarov Case

CZECH PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ADOPTS RESOLUTION ON SAFAROV CASE

news.am
October 23, 2012 | 17:24

The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security of the
Parliament of the Czech Republic, led by Committee Chairman Jozef
Regec, unanimously adopted on Tuesday Senator Jaromír Å tÄ~[tina’s
resolution, whereby the Committee expressed its concern by the Ramil
Safarov case.

“The Committee expresses its deep concern and regret that the
Azerbaijani president decided to grant pardon to Ramil Safarov, whom
the court of a European Union member state had sentenced for murder;
it considers this decision [by the Azerbaijani president]–as a
symbolic move–that could add to further escalation of tension in
relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan; also, it is concerned
that this decision would hamper the reconciliation process of the
[Nagorno-Karabakh] conflict-affected societies, and it jeopardizes the
future chance for a peaceful development of interpersonal contacts
in the region; [and] commissions the Committee Chairman, Senator
Jozef Regec, to inform the Senate President about this resolution,”
the motion reads.

Armenian News-NEWS.am reported earlier that Ramil Safarov, a lieutenant
in the Azerbaijani military, was extradited on August 31 from Hungary,
where he was serving a life sentence–and with no expression of
either regret or remorse–for the premeditated axe murder of Armenian
lieutenant Gurgen Margaryan, in his sleep, during a NATO Partnership
for Peace program in Budapest back in 2004.

As expected, Ramil Safarov’s return to Baku was welcomed, as was
his act of murder, by the officials of president Ilham Aliyev’s
government and much of Azerbaijani society, and the Azerbaijani
president immediately granted him a pardon.

And Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan announced on August 31 that
Armenia is suspending its diplomatic ties with Hungary.

Ramil Safarov’s pardoning is condemned by virtually all international
organizations.

Turkey Wants To Get Rid Of Syrian Armenians – Expert

TURKEY WANTS TO GET RID OF SYRIAN ARMENIANS – EXPERT

news.am
October 23, 2012 | 14:10

YEREVAN. – Turkey wishes to get rid of the Armenians living in
northern Syria, Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences Institute of
Orientology Director, turkologist Ruben Safrastyan stated during a
press conference on Tuesday.

According to him, such policy is an important part of official Ankara’s
agenda. “The eradication of this community of the Armenian diaspora
has always been an objective of Turkey. These objectives repeat the
[Syrian] rebels’ statements in which anti-Armenian sentiments can
already be noticed,” Safrastyan noted.

He added that if the Turkish troops cross the Syrian border, the
potential peril that is threatening the Aleppo Armenians cannot be
ruled out because the city is a mere 50-60 kilometers away from the
border. “Such statements can also be to scare so that the Armenians
leave the region. [And] This would be a huge loss for us, since the
[Armenian] community of Aleppo is the most conservative-national
community of our diaspora,” Ruben Safrastyan stated.
