St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School Unveils Expanded Building

ST. STEPHEN’S ARMENIAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL UNVEILS EXPANDED BUILDING

(SSAES) held a grand opening ceremony for its recently completed
building project, located at 46 Elton Ave., on Sunday, October 14.

The event, which marked the completion of the largest building project
supporting the Greater-Boston Armenian community in the last 20 years,
provided an opportunity for the school board and administration to
thank all the volunteers, partners and donors who gave their time
and financial support to realize the project.

The newly-expanded nursery school building includes the addition
of a new, 6,000-square-foot, two-story structure encompassing new
classrooms, a learning center as well as indoor and outdoor recreation
areas.

The project was funded solely by donations, which allowed the school
to cover the cost of the project without the need to use its endowment
fund or incur any debt. The primary donors, Noubar and Anna Afeyan, the
Mirak Family, the Bilezikian Family and Aurelian and Anahid Mardiros,
were all recognized with certificates of merit from the Prelacy of
the Armenian Church of America. Archbishop Oshagan Choloyan,

Prelate, handed out the certificates. Noubar Afeyan, for whose family
the new building is named and who has been a longstanding supporter of
the school, took the opportunity to commend the achievements of the
school and highlight the importance of supporting Armenian education
in the diaspora.

The financial generosity of the community was coupled with the
support of volunteers, including Ara Krafian, CEO of the design and
engineering firm SMMA, who designed the new building and oversaw
the abbreviated construction process. His father, Yervant Krafian,
was one of the founding members of the school 28 years ago.

As Houry Boyamian, the principal of SSAES, noted at the event,
“The expansion of our facilities is a commendable accomplishment
and a testament to what we can achieve when we come together with
one purpose – but the real accomplishment is the learning that will
take place inside the walls of this building, and for that I thank
our teachers and students.”

She added, “During our fundraising efforts it became very clear to us
that our community viewed St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School as
a vital institution that not only provides an excellent education, but
one that is essential in the preservation of our culture and heritage.

We had a vision and you helped us make it a reality. This beautiful
new addition, that you see, not only solved our space issue, but
it also created new possibilities for our school. With it, we have
been able to continue offering small class sizes, imperative for an
effective learning experience, as well as introduce enhancements to our
curriculum such as the Science Technology Engineering and Math program
(STEM Initiative), launched this year that will arm our students
with the tools they need to be successful in this technologically
driven world.”

St. Stephen’s Armenian Elementary School was founded in 1984. It is
the only Armenian day school to be fully accredited by the Association
of Independent Schools in New England (AISNE), the accrediting body
for independent elementary schools. AISNE has commended the school
for “creating an environment where all the students love to read
and appear committed to academic excellence” and for recruiting a
dedicated staff. To learn more about SSAES, visit

ARMENIAN NATIONAL CONGRESS REFUSES ARMENIAN PRIME MINISTER’S SUGGESTION TO COOPERATE IN ANTI-CORRUPTION FIGHT

Thursday, November 1, 19:27

The Armenian National Congress (ANC) refuses Armenian Prime Minister
Tigran Sargsyan’s suggestion to participate in the Nov 2 sitting of
the Anti-Corruption Council in the Government. At today’s session,
the premier called on all NGOs and opposition parties to join the anti-
corruption fight.

The ANC’s statement reads that the incumbent authorities are themselves
the result of corruption; therefore, the fight against this evil will
be like a theatrical performance in the run-up to the presidential
elections. The ANC thinks that not a single opposition party will
join the premier’s suggestion.

PanARMENIAN.Net – Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei described the U.S. administration as “the most
hated government in the world”, saying that the White House has
“enslaved the American nation to Zionists.”

According to Fars news agency, when addressing a large crowd of
Iranian students on Wednesday, Oct 31, the leader said, “It is a
great shame that the U.S. presidential candidates compete with each
other in their debates to show their devotion to the Zionists and
have made their nation their slave.”

“The most hostile anti-human rights measures are taken with the U.S.

support. The Zionists who have been violating the rights of the
oppressed Palestinian nation for 60 year are fully supported by the
U.S. administration,” Khamenei said.

How To Become A Millionaire Judge? Ask Artak Zakharyan

HOW TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE JUDGE? ASK ARTAK ZAKHARYAN
Ruben Vardanyan

13:02, November 1, 2012

Even though Judge Artak Zakharyan only receives an annual salary of
3.939 million AMD, he reported a whopping 422 million AMD in the bank
as of January 1, 2011.

Judge Zakharyan, who serves on the bench of the Malatya-Sebastia
District Court, also reported savings of US $200,000 and 200,000 Euros.

Of interest is that Zakharyan worked as a specialist and senior
supervisor at Armenia’s State Customs Committee from 1998 to 2001.

In 2001, he was appointed an investigator at the Malatya-Sebastia
Prosecutor’s Office. In 2005, he was appointed an Assistant to the
Malatya-Sebastia Prosecutor and two years later he became a prosecutor
himself.

Where he got so much money is anyone’s guess. Perhaps it was an
“inheritance” from his father Yervant Zakharyan, a former Yerevan
mayor and now President of the State Real Estate Cadastre.

Azerbaijani judoka Ilgar Mushkiyev said their team was protected well
in Yerevan during the 2009 European Championships.

“Although it was three years ago I remember every minute of that
tournament. The way how they met us in Baku sank deep into my heart.

Azerbaijan won five medals in Yerevan and we were especially happy
about Elmar Gasimov’s gold medal,” he said.

Mushkiyev said they did not manage to walk in Yerevan, only near
the hotel.

“We were protected well. Organization of the tournament was also good.

We stayed in a separate hotel and were cordoned by police during the
tournament. We were given a guard even when we went to a restroom,”
azerisport quotes Mushkiyev.

Armenia Can Expand The Programs Of Cooperation With Nato

ARMENIA CAN EXPAND THE PROGRAMS OF COOPERATION WITH NATO

GYUMRI, NOVEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. The partnership between Armenia
and NATO has been expanded and improved both the format and content
during the twenty years of cooperation. The Head of the Mission of the
Republic of Armenia in NATO, Ambassador, the Head of the Department
of Surveillance of Arms and International Security of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Samvel Lazarian spoke about
this in a conversation with “Armenpress”. Samvel Lazarian stated:
“Naturally if not the reciprocal benefit both sides will not expand
these relations. Undoubtedly we develop our relations with NATO in
various spheres as well and first of all is the political dialogue,
which is also realized in the highest level.”

The sides introduce their approach and positions in the security
matters and make efforts in order to find general solutions. In
the Ambassador’s opinion this will provide representation in
the international level for our country, involvement in important
international procedures, as well as it supports the national security
of our country. Samvel Lazarian highlighted: “Sure we have our primary
relations with Russia and we are a member of CSTO springing out from
the viewpoint of our security, but presently in the international level
it’s not enough to limit ourselves with such an alliance alone. It’s
also necessary to develop our relations with such organizations playing
an important role in the international relations and developments.”

Our cooperation with NATO is profitable from the viewpoint of military
sphere as well. This structure assisted our country to reform and
changes our military system.
