Azerbaijani envoy addresses AIPAC Policy Conference

Azerbaijani Ambassador to the US Elin Suleymanov has addressed a wide
audience at the Annual Policy Conference of the American Israel Public
Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Other participants of discussions on “Relations with Israel with South
Caucasus states” held as part of the conference were Svante Cornell, the
director of Silk Road Studies Program under the Central Asian-Caucasus
Institute of the John Hopkins University, and Brenda Shaffer, the chief
lecturer of the University of Haifa, the Azerbaijani Embassy in the US told
Gun.Az .

First informing about the Azerbaijani-US relations, the diplomat noted that
the two countries closely cooperate in energy sector and combating
terrorism.

Speaking about the history of the Azerbaijani-Israeli relations, Suleymanov
noted the role of the relationship between the Azerbaijani people and
Jewish community living in Azerbaijan.

Having said that the Jews throughout history liven among Muslims in
Azerbaijan peacefully and without discrimination, the ambassador stressed
that the Jews fought shoulder to shoulder with Azerbaijanis during the
Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Noting that Azerbaijan currently meets 40% of Israel’s demands on energy
resources, the ambassador underscored the importance of high-level official
visits in terms of further deepening the existing relations.

Protest demo to he beld outside US Embassy in Yerevan

A group of Yerevan citizens will gather outside the U.S. Embassy in
Yerevan at 3.00 to express their disappointment and disagreement with
U.S. President Barack Obama, who congratulated Serzh Sargsyan on his
re-election later last week.

“Similar behavior by an influential country that is largely viewed as
a democratic state devaluates the idea of democracy, making it as a
tool to pursue their private interests in the region at the expense of
our national interests. The countries that recognized the results of
the rigged presidential election in Armenia legitimize the crimes of
the regime, thereby hindering establishment of democracy in Armenia.

Illegitimate authorities cannot withstand the superpowers that
pressurize them, forcing them to conclude anti-state bargains. The
recognition of the Armenian Genocide has been placed on the altar in
the past five years.

The congratulatory messages of U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry and
President Barack Obama suggest that Serzh Sargsyan will have to
sacrifice Artsakh in his second term of his presidency,” the
organizers said in a statement.

Raffi Hovhannisian meets leaders of ARF-D, Sardarapat group

The opposition Heritage party’s leader, Raffi Hovhannisyan, met on
Sunday with the top figures of the Armenian Revolutionary
Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D) and the Sardarapat group.

According to a statement by the former presidential candidate’s
campaign headquarters, the meeting with the senior representatives of
ARF-D, Hrant Margaryan and Armen Rustamyan, focused on the current
`political crisis and the possible ways out’.

The discussion was also attended by Hovsep Khurshudyan, a spokesperson
for the headquarters.

Later in the day, Hovhannisian, Khurshudyan and the secretary of the
opposition Heritage faction in parliament, Zaruhi Postanjyan, had a
meeting with Zhirayr Sefilyan and Alec Yenigmosyan of the Sardarapat
group.

The sides have shared concerns over `the popular movement and the
steps towards reaching a victory’.

YEREVAN. – I visited Armenia for the first time about twenty years
ago, and I have always liked your country, the United Kingdom
Ambassador to Armenia, Jonathan James Aves, told Armenian
News-NEWS.am.

`I was in Armenia for the first time in 1991, and I wanted to visit
again every time. There is something special about ancient history,
culture, and the contemporary life of the Armenian people. I really
like being here,’ the British diplomat noted.

In his words, even though Armenia is located on the other edge of
Europe, it is a European country.

`We are a part of the shared cultural world,’ Ambassador Jonathan
James Aves concluded.

Raffi Hovannisian Headquarters Will Appeal to Constitutional Court

Yerevan–On March 4, at 5:30 pm, Raffi K. Hovannisian’s
representatives will appeal to the Constitutional Court of Armenia
with a demand to nullify the falsified data released by the Central
Electoral Commission of Armenia on February 25 regarding the
presidential election of February 18, and to validate the true choice
of the people. At 6 pm, Raffi Hovannisian’s spokesman and legal
advisors will convene an open-air press conference in front of the
Constitutional Court.

Harut Yekmalyan dans son atelier

Harut Yekmalyan au Mayet-de-Montagne. Harut Yekmalyan s’installe
petit à petit dans son nouvel atelier au Mayet-de-Montagne. Ce
sculpteur d’origine arménienne est un artiste depuis sa plus tendre
enfance. Son professeur était son père, sculpteur créateur, lui-même.

Après avoir travaillé aux Beaux-Arts, en Arménie, il s’est installé en
France, il y a quinze ans pour poursuivre son projet artistique.

Depuis quatorze ans, Harut participe à des festivals, des concours,
des expositions, mais ce qu’il préfère ce sont les performances en
public.

« J’ai beaucoup à apprendre de tout ce qui m’entoure, explique Harut.
C’est l’occasion de s’ouvrir aux autres, d’aller à l’encontre des
choses et surtout être ouvert contre l’isolement ».

Une vingtaine d’années de formation, d’études et de travail de
perfectionnement l’ont emmené aux quatre coins du monde avec ses
sculptures plus géantes les unes que les autres.

Suite à l’appel d’offres de Chtel-Montagne, il y a huit ans, Harut
s’est installé dans ce village d’artistes qui lui rappelle un peu son
pays natal.

Il roule beaucoup, de ville en ville, pour faire découvrir son
travail. Pour le mois de mars, il prépare une exposition au conseil de
l’Europe, à Strasbourg.

Harut Hekmalyan est aussi coordinateur d’une résidence d’artiste
sculpteurs dans les Pyrénées.

Dans son atelier du Mayet, il propose des stages de sculptures sur
pierre tendre, stéatite et albtre.

” Sans fétichiser les archives, rendre présent le passé…. ”
Cinéastes et plasticiens, Khalil Joreige & Joana Hadjithomas
poursuivent cette tche depuis des années. Leur dernier projet fait à
la fois l’objet d’un film, qui sortira en salles le 27 mars, et d’une
exposition, fondés sur un épisode oublié de l’histoire de leur pays,
le Liban. Dans les années 1960, des étudiants de l’université
arménienne de Beyrouth s’étaient lancés dans un projet de fusée
spatiale. Il n’en reste nulle trace, si ce n’est un timbre. A partir
de ce modeste indice, le duo a enquêté et reconstitué à sa manière le
passé : en assumant ses lacunes. A partir des photos prises durant le
lancement (raté), ils créent de troublantes images sous Plexiglas : la
fumée de l’engin devient nuage de matière translucide, comme ” une
sculpture de l’immatériel qui ne peut se figer vraiment “. Ils ont
aussi fait tisser en Arménie un tapis reprenant le motif du timbre,
comme pour boucler la boucle. Photos, vidéos, installations,
l’ensemble saisit un moment de l’histoire pour le faire dériver vers
la fiction.

Wrestling coach Armen Nazaryan starts hunger strike after IOC snub

BULGARIA’S top wrestling coach Armen Nazaryan has started a hunger
strike to protest the decision to drop the sport from the next
Olympics.

The country’s wrestling federation said Nazaryan “will not eat until
the start of the European Championship on March 22 in Tbilisi, Georgia
… and will only take juices.”

The 39-year-old Nazaryan won Olympic gold for his native Armenia in
1996, and for Bulgaria in 2000. He is now head coach of Bulgaria’s
Greco-Roman wrestling team.

Last month, the chief of Bulgaria’s wrestling federation and
seven-time world champion, Valentin Yordanov, returned his gold medal
from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Bulgarians have won 16 Olympic titles, making wrestling the most
successful Olympic sport in the Balkan country.

LIBAN
Plus de 200 Arméniens du Liban sont devenus des citoyens d’Arménie
Une présentation officielle des passeports arméniens a eu lieu à
l’Ambassade d’Arménie au Liban.

Dans son allocution, l’ambassadeur d’Arménie au Liban, Ashot
Kocharyan, a félicité les récipiendaires. Il a souligné que devenir un
citoyen d’Arménie est un grand honneur et une fierté pour tous et
chacun, et lui confère des droits et des responsabilités semblables.

L’ambassadeur a hautement apprécié le rôle de communauté arménienne du
Liban joue au sein de la diaspora arménienne. Il a exprimé sa
conviction que la délivrance d’un passeport arménien permet de
nouvelles opportunités pour les compatriotes à visiter l’Arménie plus
souvent, à participer à des manifestations dans tout le pays, et,
également, de contribuer au développement de la patrie.

Après la cérémonie de serment, l’Ambassadeur Kotcharian a présenté les
passeports arméniens à plus de 200 Arméniens libanais.

A noter, ces dernières semaines, l’Ambassade d’Arménie au Liban a
également distribué des passeports arméniens à environ 60 Arméniens de
Syrie, qui sont temporairement résidant au Liban en raison des
développements politiques en Syrie.

Serj Tankian n’est pas convaincu par la réponse de Serge Sarkissian

Le musicien américain Serj Tankian a exprimé son mécontentement
mercredi 27 février 2013 à propos de la réponse Serge Sarkissian. Serj
Tankian a déclaré que Serge Sarkissian n’a répondu à aucune de ses
questions concernant les fraudes électorales.

« Les citoyens de l’Arménie protestent contre le résultat des
élections », a écrit le chanteur du groupe de rock américain System of
a Down dans une seconde lettre diffusée par les médias. « Écoutez les
étudiants grévistes. Ils sont l’avenir de l’Arménie. La corruption,
l’injustice, l’émigration, l’anarchie et les élections truquées… Ces
maux ont vidé notre pays de ses citoyens plus que les mines et les
bombes. Qu’allez-vous faire à leur sujet ? Allez-vous réformer le
système ? »

Dans sa première lettre, Tankian avait remis en question la légitimité
de la réélection de M. Sarkissian. Il avait exhorté Serge Sarkissian à
initier des changements radicaux dans le pays. « Je pense que vous
avez fait un excellent travail pour la sécurisation des frontières de
l’Arménie et fait face à la situation extrêmement délicate et
difficile de la guerre du Karabakh », a écrit Tankian.

Le secrétaire de Serge Sarkissian, Armen Arzoumanian, a dit plus tard
dans la journée que le président a lu la deuxième lettre et qu’il est
d’accord avec la grande majorité des questions soulevées par M.
Tankian. « Le président pense que tout ou presque a été dit dans la
période pré-électorale et que le moment est venu d’agir », a déclaré
Arzumanian.
