Britain’s Got Talent hopeful Kev Orkian has revealed that he will
have the backing of the British troops when he performs on tonight’s
semi final show.

Kev impressed the judges on last week’s show, with his stuck cd
version of Elton John’s ‘I’m Still Standing.’ The Armenian entertainer
plays regular free gigs at barracks up and down the UK and is an
ardent supporter of the Help for Heroes charity. He plans to fly to
Afghanistan as soon as BGT finishes and told The Sun that the British
Forces Foundation have pledged their support to him tonight.

About 100 opposition demonstrators again clashed with law enforcement
Monday afternoon at the newly-reopened Freedom Square (Opera House).

About 20 demonstrators were taken into custody. Fifteen were members
of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) and three were oppositionist
newspaper reporters.

Police had asked the crowd to take it demonstration to another
location, leaving the popular area for cafe guests, late afternoon
strollers and children who use the grounds for bicycling and
rollerblading.

“They [police officers] were pushing people without differentiating
girls-women; they were beating people and jostling them,” Lilit
Tadevosyan, of ‘Hayk’ daily, who was taken to the Police Office,
told ArmeniaNow.

Demonstrators taken into custody were released later, except for
one female reporter accused of hitting a police officer and two men
charged with hooliganism.

On Monday, Robert Melkonyan, Chief of Patrol Division of the RA Police,
told Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that the reason why public rallies
are not allowed in Freedom Square is the new underground parking.

“This area should not be crowded. [If we do not prevent it now],
later this will become a meeting scene,” Melkonyan said.

Also on Monday the RA Ombudsman Office released a statement appealing
to citizens “to abstain from actions disturbing public order,”
and urging law enforcement “to act within the law while fulfilling
their duties and avoid imposing groundless restrictions on peaceful
assemblies.”

requiem service, His Holiness addressed the people and said: “The battle of
Sardarapat was the expression of the will of Armenians to safeguard their
national spiritual and cultural values on their own land. The celebration of
Sardarapat on 28 May every year, strengthens the members of the brotherhood
of the Catholicosate of Cilicia, and the Diaspora in their resolve to say

Event Dedicated To Armenian Genocide In Tehran

EVENT DEDICATED TO ARMENIAN GENOCIDE IN TEHRAN

ARMENPRESS
JUNE 1, 2010
YEREVAN

YEREVAN, JUNE 1, ARMENPRESS: On the initiative of Tehran Center for
the Studies of Armenian Issues and the ‘Y. Davtyan’ Students Union
an event, dedicated to the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, was
held May 24 at Ararat Armenian Sports Complex. The event, intended
for the Iranian audience, was entitled ‘A Crime Remained Unpunished’.

An official from the press and information department of RA Foreign
Affairs Ministry told Armenpress that Iranian political scientist
Mohammad Reza Dabiri, Iranian-Armenian lawyer Talin Bandarii, RA
Ambassador to Iran Grigor Arakelyan and others addressed speeches
during the ceremony. Mr. Grigor Arakelyan expressed his gratitude to
those countries, the parliaments of which recognized the Armenian
Genocide. The Ambassador also said he is grateful to the Islamic
Republic of Iran, which has always given opportunities to the
Iranian-Armenian community for the commemoration of the victims of
the Armenian Genocide.

A number of events where held in Isfahan May 27 and in Tehran May 28
on the Day of the First Republic of Armenia. At Isfahan’s Primacy

members of the council of the diocese.

Armenia-Iran Pipeline: Russian Gas Giant Announces Its Participation

ARMENIA-IRAN PIPELINE: RUSSIAN GAS GIANT ANNOUNCES ITS PARTICIPATION IN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

01.06.10 | 12:46

Economy

Russia’s gas monopoly will take part in the construction of an oil
pipeline Iran-Armenia, Gazprom’s Deputy Board Chairman Valeriy Golubev
said on Monday.

“This is a realistic project and we will take part in it,” Golubev
told media while visiting the Hrazdan thermal power plant in Armenia.

According to him, Gazprom will take part in the construction through
its subsidiary – closely held joint-stock company ArmRosGazprom, which
has a monopoly on the supply and distribution of Russian natural gas
on the Armenian market. (Natural gas is delivered to Armenia by way
of transit via Georgia.)

As to plans for the construction of an oil refinery in the territory
of Armenia that have been discussed for several years, Golubev said
the project has been put on hold because of its unprofitability.

The press service of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of
Armenia earlier reported that a joint Armenian-Iranian task group was
completing technical work on establishing the diameter of a future
oil pipeline from the refinery in the Iranian city of Tabriz to the
Armenian city of Yeraskh.

Armenia, Iran and Russia take part in the pipeline construction. The
estimated cost of the project is $200-$240 million, according to
RIA Novosti.

Opinion: Armenian Political Expert Evaluates Turkish-Israeli Stand-O

OPINION: ARMENIAN POLITICAL EXPERT EVALUATES TURKISH-ISRAELI STAND-OFF
By Gayane Abrahamyan

ArmeniaNow

Analysis

Day-by-day worsening Turkish-Israeli relations will give Armenia
‘surface victories’, which will have no serious results, says analyst
Ruben Melkonyan, a specialist in Turkish studies and a professor at
Yerevan State University.

“The issue of the Armenian Genocide Recognition may be activated in the
Knesset of Israel, or the Jewish lobby will take a neutral position,
but it will be temporary,” Melkonyan told ArmeniaNow.

The Turkish-Israeli tension, launched in 2009, reached its climax on
May 31, when a Turkish vessel (as part of pro-Palestinian aid flotilla)
bound for the Gaza Strip was seized by Israel, as a result of which,
due to preliminary data, 16 people died.

Armenians felt the first results of worsening of relations between
the strategic partners this March, when the Resolution on the Armenian
Genocide was being discussed at the House Committee of the US Congress,
when the Jewish lobby, which previously had opposed such resolution,
did not hinder it, and the resolution passed.

Melkonyan says the Turkish-Israeli clash will be settled, due to the
two nations’ strategic partnership, “which cannot be annulled within
one day.”

The analyst also foresees some possible threats.

According to Melkonyan, after Israel launched an attack on Turkish
vessels, Turkey took the role of a vanguard to unite the Muslim world,
raising its reputation.

“If the current authorities win in the upcoming general elections 2011
in Turkey, then the policy of Muslim consolidation will continue, and
it will be dangerous for us, resulting in new challenges,” Melkonyan
says reminding how Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto,
(assassinated in 2007) appealed to the Muslim world to unite and to
support Azerbaijan against Armenia.

Melkonyan also warns that the anti-Semite moods burst in Turkey
recently may also do harm to the Armenian community in Turkey.

“Usually when some actions are taken against any national minority in
Turkey, other minorities also suffer from it. This happened in 1955,
when during fights against Greeks many Armenian died, Armenian churches
were destroyed, etc.,” Melkonyan says.
