ALEXANDER ISKANDARYAN: TURKEY NEEDS JUICY SCANDALS WITH ISRAEL

Director of Caucasus Institute, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan
said that one should not expect a progress in the Armenian-Turkish
normalization until the parliamentary elections in Turkey. The internal
political atmosphere in Turkey will not allow the ruling party to take
steps for ratification of the Armenian-Turkish Protocols, Iskandaryan
told a press conference in Yerevan.

Referring to the recent developments in the Turkish-Israeli relations,
the expert noted that the raid on the Freedom Flotilla will not lead
to a war, but Ankara needs juicy scandals with Israel.

“Turkey is trying to change its policy in the Near East, thus, we
observe Ankara’s activity in relations with Syria, Iran and Iraq.

Turkey needs to damage its relations with Israel to become more
active in the Near East and establish friendly relations with the
Arab countries,” said Iskandaryan.

He added that, most likely, the situation will worsen, as Turkey wants
it. “In such case, the possibility of adoption of the Armenian Genocide
resolution by Israeli Knesset will increase,” the expert noted.

The second stage of negotiations between Armenian Foreign Minister
Edward Nalbandian and his Canadian counterpart Lawrence Cannon was
held on June 1. The parties discussed agendas of the upcoming G8 and
G20 summits.

Nalbandian said that Armenia is going to support Canada’s candidacy
during the elections of the UN Security Council non-permanent member.

Besides, the current problems in international relations and ways
for their solution were in the focus of the meeting.

The Armenian Foreign Minister also met with Canadian Minister of
Science and Technology Gary Goodyear to discuss the two countries’
cooperation opportunities in this field. The two men attached
importance to exchange of experience among representatives of the
field. They agreed to establish cooperation between scientific and
educational institutions of Armenia and Canada.

Later the same day, the Armenian Foreign Minister visited Carleton
University to provide a lecture on Armenia’s foreign policy.

Families Of Israeli Diplomats To Leave Turkey

FAMILIES OF ISRAELI DIPLOMATS TO LEAVE TURKEY

PanARMENIAN.Net

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel decided to start evacuating
family members of Israeli diplomats from Turkey. The decision was
adopted due to danger, which may threaten them now, but largely due to
unpredictability of behavior of the Turkish leaders, who intentionally
inflame the anti-Israeli hysteria, what may lead to drastic worsening
of the situation at any point.

The diplomatic mission itself will remain in Turkey. And the level of
diplomatic relations with this country will not be lowered by Israel,
despite the evident hostile policy of the Turkish leaders.

EDWARD NALBANDIAN: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO RESOLVE CONFLICT, OFFERING ITS REASON AS SETTLEMENT MECHANISM

PanARMENIAN.Net
June 2, 2010 – 11:39 AMT 06:39 GMT

Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that use of force
or threat of its use should not be exploited as a trump card. “The
Azerbaijani authorities’ bellicose statements and disseminating
ethnic hatred rhetoric not only violate the international law, but
also contradict the promises of Azerbaijan about its intention to
secure prosperity of the Karabakh people,” Mr. Nalbandian said at
Carleton University, Ottawa.

“It is impossible to resolve a conflict, offering its reason as a
settlement mechanism,” the Foreign Minister noted in his comments on
outlooks for the Karabakh conflict resolution.

According to him, Azerbaijan hopes that its waving flag over
Stepanakert will symbolize the conflict resolution. “In reality,
Stalin’s forcible imposing of the Azerbaijani flag to Artsakh in
1921 became the reason for the further Karabakh conflict,” stressed
Nalbandyan, the RA MFA press service reported.

Leader of the People’s Party of Armenia (HzhK) Stepan Demirchyan
says Armenia’s interior and exterior problems are resulted by lack
of justice inside the country.

“Why shouldn’t our citizens be allowed to stroll freely at Liberty
Square?” Mr. Demirchyan said regarding the recent confrontation
between opposition supporters and riot police at the square.

“It seems that the authorities have nothing else to do but blocking
opposition’s entry to the square. The authorities pressurized
opposition activities violently removing them from the square. We
condemn the incident and call on the authorities to release journalist
Ani Gevorgyan and the two other opposition activists detained after
the clashes,” said the HZhK leader.

Mr. Demirtchyan reminded the Armenian leadership that opposition would
continue rallying people unless the last political prisoner was set
free, and the authorities held free and fair elections in the country.

Stepan Demirchyan is astonished at people finding pleasure in the
authorities’ failures.

“When the opposition fails it means the country is on the brink of
downfall. If authorities do not aim to take the path of free and fair
elections they must be forced to do it by the public. Sooner or later
people will succeed in their efforts. They cannot fail for ever. Power
change is not impossible. We do not want Armenia to follow the example
of Kyrgyzstan. We want a change of power by traditional methods.”

President Serzh Sargsyan yesterday announced in Rostov-on-Don that
Armenia’s political sphere is stabilising and anti-corruption programs
proved effective.

Commenting on the president’s speech Mr. Demirtchyan said: “It is
needless to speak about stability. You can only talk about apathy,
depression and demoralization. But by and large, our society has not
resigned and will not tolerate injustice and violence. Undoubtedly,
the struggle will yield fruit. Today we witness increase in social
tensions, polarization and emigration. This is the real picture

Language To Russians, Songs To Turks

LANGUAGE TO RUSSIANS, SONGS TO TURKS

Singer Ruben Hakhverdyan and jazz musician Armen Tutunjyan-Chiko
today dwelt on the cultural policy and situation in Armenia.

Dwelling on the low-taste music demand, Chiko says that taste has a
genetic character and it can be developed only a little. According
to him, the solution will be to enhance the quality of the education.

According to Chiko artists can be only educated people. Chiko proposes
to make art education free of charge because students, who do not
study, are not expelled from universities, because they pay.

As to the fact that world famous groups and singers are being invited
to Armenia, Chiko thinks, it is good, but our country spends huge
money to organize those concerts while we have many other issues.

Ruben Hakhverdyan noted that the greater part of our songs are Turkish,
we steel them and sing.

“Our misfortune is that we are not aware of the huge cultural heritage
we have. Now we are again going back to Russians and Russian schools.

Our foreign policy is engaged in adulating Russians”, says Hakhverdyan.

According to Hakhverdyan, if we lose our mother language, we will lose
our protective layer. Everything has already been sold to Russians,
only the language is left which is also being sold, we have already
become a province of Russia.

SERZH SARGSYAN: ARMENIA NOT INTENT TO BARGAIN ARTSAKH PEOPLE RIGHT TO SELF-DETERMINATION WITH ANYONE

Turkey is trying to interfere with Artsakh issue settlement process
where it evidently has nothing to do, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
told the Armenian community representatives in Rostov-on-Don.

“Of course, you are aware that we have suspended the ratification
process of Armenin-Turkish protocols. The main cause for doing
so is very clear: Turkey is not ready to ratify the protocols
today. To justify its failure, every day Turkey is putting forth new
preconditions. Moreover, it is trying to interfere with an affair,
I mean the Artsakh issue settlement, where it evidently has nothing
to do,” the President highlighted.

Serzh Sargsyan said at the moment we have nothing to speak with an
unreliable and non-trustworthy partner which regularly breaks the
preliminary agreement.

“I am convinced that you remember the remarks, concerns and ideas
voiced here, in Rostov-on-Don, during my previous visit.

Time has shown that we have done the utmost we could for the opening
of the last closed border in Europe, while Turkey is not ready for
this,” the President said.

As far as Nagorno-Karabakh conflict goes, S. Sargsyan said we are not
intent to bargain the right to self-determination of Artsakh people
with anyone.

ARMENIAN PRESIDENT: ARMENIA AND RUSSIA HAVE STRONG GROUNDS

Armenia and Russian has strong ground under their feet, and I’m sure
those ties wouldn’t be changed, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan
declared at his meeting with the representatives of Armenian community
to Rostov-on-Don.

“This fact is en evident advantage and favorable terms for our
communities, since we have perfect relations with new fatherland –
Russia, and historic country – Armenia. Even more, we have an ideal
example of mutual understanding and trust for others,” President
Sargsyan described ties between the states.

Armenian President expressed happiness for his meeting with the
compatriots and for conveying cordial greetings from their fatherland.

“Rostov-on-Don has done much to our literature, culture and development
of political thoughts making Armenian President’s speech here more
accented. I mean, I have people of New Nakhijevan standing on my back –
Rapayel Patkanyan, Michael Nalbandyan, Martiros Saryan and many others
whose names and activities are holy for us. This is binding for those
who work and create here and are called on to continue worthy those
traditions,” President Sargsyan said.

“NO UNILATERAL CONCESSIONS OVER NAGORNO-KARABAKH”

Panorama.am
02/06/2010

I don’t see any opportunities for resumption of Armenian-Turkish
normalization process in the near future, the head of People’s Party
of Armenia Stepan Demirchyan told reporters Wednesday.

According to him, relations with neighbors should be regular and
they are for normalization of relations between the two countries,
“not at the expense of national virtue, naturally.”

He said they are against the provision over establishing a historical
committee. According to Demirchyan, Turkey used the process to prevent
the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Speaking about Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, S. Demirchyan said they
are against any unilateral concessions.

“The right to self-determination of Artsakh people should be respected,
use of force should be ruled out, the rest is a matter of talks,”
he highlighted.

“NEW FILM, ANIMATION FILM, COMPUTER GAME ABOUT TIGRAN THE GREAT”

Panorama.am

Within the framework of the events dedicated to the 2100th birth
anniversary of Tigran the Great, Artak Movsisyan has initiated to
publish a map-calendar to be used as a manual in all the schools of the
republic, Armenian historian Artak Movsisyan told reporters Wednesday.

The map will be hung on the walls in all the classrooms so that
children can use it and get acquainted with Tigran the Great’s
activity. So, it will be 2011-2012 calendar, as well as the chronology
of Tigran the Great’s activity with photos, etc.

Besides, a number of other events have also been suggested: shooting
of a film, as well as an animation film, though, the latter requires
huge sums: %30-50 thousand.

The initiatives have submitted another offer over making a computer
game. According to the historian, their offer on making a TV program
about the great emperor received no response from TV channels.

A. Movsisyan noted, however, that there are volunteers who are ready
to call the project to life.
