economic relations,” he said, highlighting that Armenian businessmen
attended a forum in Tehran in February this year. He said, relations
with the neighbor country are on high level and the entrepreneurs
are facing a task to maintain economic ties on the same level. Goods
turnover is increasing every year between the countries and the two
states still have a non-used potential.

Armenian Generals Tired Of Azerbaijani Military Statements

ARMENIAN GENERALS TIRED OF AZERBAIJANI MILITARY STATEMENTS

The director of “Noravanq” scientific research center Gagik Harutyunan
says he’s guided by one indicator when assessing the trilateral
meeting of the Presidents of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan to be
constructive or not. “If another meeting follows this one, that would
mean the sides have agreed upon continuing the negotiations exactly
its stream,” Gagik Harutyunyan told Panorama.am.

Talking about St Petersburg trilateral meeting, expert assessed it
as advancement after six months break. It’s worth reminding that
Sargsyan-Aliev-Medvedev meeting took place on June 25 in Sochi.

“If there is again a break after this meeting, that would imply
Russia’s President just used the moment organizing the meeting,”
Harutyunyan said.

Why has Azerbaijan’s President agreed upon the meeting if Azeri
high ranking officials used to declare about the meaningless of the
negotiations?

Gagik Harutyunyan said Azerbaijan’s President was to accept the
international norms of that game. He has to, since, according to G.

Harutyunyan, the military oriented statements made by Azeri officials
bored the international community: “I think, the visit of U.S. Defense
Secretary had one mission to urge Azerbaijan behave properly, since
that country has a huge potential of being aggressive.”

According to the expert Armenian generals have also got tired of their
statements. “It’s much talked about that if the war starts Azerbaijan
will have great losses not only till Gandzak but up to Nakhijevan,”
expert said.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliev had a meeting with the OSCE MG
co-chairs Robert Bradtke (USA), Bernard Fassier (France), Igor Popov
(Russia) and personal representative of OSCE Chairman-in-Office
after the trilateral meeting with Dmitry Medvedev of Russia and Serzh
Sargsyan of Armenia. After the meetings Azerbaijan’s President traveled
back to Azerbaijan.

The fact is remarkable since Azerbaijan’s President’s press service
reported earlier Mr. Aliev had traveled to St Petersburg to attend
International Economic Forum, in the frames of which he was going
to have meetings with his Russian and Armenian counterparts. But in
fact Aliev left St Petersburg after the trilateral and MG meetings
not attending the forum.

A week ago during his Istanbul visit Ilham Aliev declared he finds
no necessity in having a meeting with the Armenian side. He excluded
any possibility of such a meeting.

The trilateral meeting of Armenian, Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents
in Saint Petersburg was another step in the negotiating process
of Karabakh conflict: the sides agreed to continue the negotiating
process basing on Madrid principles, Armenian Republican Party deputy
Artak Zakaryan told reporters today.

Another ARP deputy Karen Avagyan said the meetings within the
framework of the negotiating process over Nagorno-Karabakh process
is progress already. “When an issue is much spoken about, it becomes
more comprehensible,” he expleined.

Speaking about Armenian-Turkish ties, A. Zakaryan said no changes
should be expected here taking into consideration the Turkish-Israeli
tension. K. Avagyan, in turn, said Turkey has understood already that
it can in no way play a role in Nagorno-Karabakh settlement as either
Armenia or the world powers engaged in Armenia-Turkey process will
not allow it.

ALIYEV WENT TO ST. PETERSBURG UNDER PRESSURE, EXPERT SAYS

Panorama.am
18/06/2010

“After these tough statements Aliyev’s presence in St. Petersburg could
be commented in different ways, one of them, to me, being external
pressure,” political expert, Yerevan State University professor
Alexander Manasyan told reporters today. He recalled that prior to
the meeting Aliyev announced that he has nothing to say, it’s Armenia
that should speak and announce on withdrawal of its troops.

“Aliyev had to go to Saint Petersburg and going there under pressure
means something,” Manasyan said, explaining that the international
community cannot tolerate collapse of the settlement process of
conflicts, as well as taking these to the field of bellicose rhetoric.
