Russia Brokered Meeting Of Azeri And Armenian Presidents

RUSSIA BROKERED MEETING OF AZERI AND ARMENIAN PRESIDENTS

The Messenger
March 8 2011
Georgia

Under the sponsorship of Russian President Medvedev, Russia organised
a meeting between the Armenian and Azeri presidents Serge Sarkisian
and Ilham Aliyev in Sochi. There have been several such initiatives
since 2008, the major achievements of the meetings not being steps
towards the regulation of the Karabakh conflict but merely the
prevention of a resumption of hostilities in the region. Armenian
sources confirmed that the declaration of March 5, 2011 has the same
content as that of the November 2008 declaration. Russia~Rs position
is clear and unchanged ~V it is satisfied with a simple no peace ~V
no war situation. Similar situations exist with the current conflicts
in Moldova and Georgia, which are clearly beneficial for the Kremlin.

Psychologist: `TV is full of garbage’

Psychologist: `TV is full of garbage’

Aysor.am
Saturday,March 05

The audience is more attracted by comic TV programs, however the
programs that are broadcasted today degrade the TV audience, thinks
Karine Nalchajyan.

`The humor that is on TVs today, is in a poor condition. The jargon,
the low level of mentality and the foolish humor profane the society
especially the youth. The characters that are being presented to the
audience through the screens are simply copied by the teenagers and
the youth,’ she said.

The psychologist mentioned with sorrow that there are no restrictions
for such cases as those who can and should make restrictions like
these programs, she noticed.

`Strict bans are needed for the prevention of all of these, there
should be censoring councils who will filter the TV programs. The TV
channels are full of garbage and I hardly manage to change the
channel,’ Karine Nalchajyan mentioned and added that this is a
violation of human rights.

Azerbaijani Deputy: Occupied Lands Less a Threat Than Russian Base

AZERBAIJANI DEPUTY: “THE OCCUPIED LANDS DO NOT POSE SUCH A THREAT TO
AZERBAIJAN AS THE RUSSIAN MILITARY BASE IN OUR TERRITORY”

AZG DAILY #39, 05-03-2011

By Hovik Afyan

“Azg” daily has already informed that Russian Defense Ministry has
decided to modernize Azerbaijani Gabala radar station.

“Russia cannot start modernizing the Gabala radar station without
Azerbaijan’s permission”, Azerbaijani deputy Fazil Mustafa told a
plenary session of Milli Meclis Tuesday.

He said there have been reports that Russia wants to modernize Gabala
radar station, it rents from Azerbaijan.

“How can a base in the territory of Azerbaijan be modernized without
country’s permission? The occupied lands do not pose such a threat to
Azerbaijan as the Russian military base in our territory. We believe
we must demand explanations”, he said.

In 2002, Russia and Azerbaijan signed an agreement according to which
Russia leased the station from Azerbaijan until 2012.

It means that a year is left to the completion of the term of the
contract, and Russia wants to prolong its military presence in
Azerbaijan by modernizing the radar station.

During the NA briefings head of ARF fraction Vahan Hovnannisyan turned
to the incident that took place between `Inheritance’ party members
and policemen.

Commenting on one of the policemen’s speech on TV Vahan Hovhannisyan
said, `As I understand the police have started giving lessons to the
society, what they can tell the government and what demands they can
and can’t have.

This is probably a result of not being familiar with Constitution and
Legislation, because police obligation is to keep order and not give
us instructions’.

He also added that some policemen consider their job political and
evaluate political forces.

`For example, they believe that we have rushed in making
announcements. A question rises, who are you to give advice?’

Prosecutor General’s Office rejects motion to dismiss charges against former MP

17:38 – 04.03.11

The Prosecutor General’s Office has rejected a motion to dismiss the
criminal charges against former MP Khachatur Sukiasyan who backed the
opposition in 2008.

Sukiasyan’s lawyers Ara Zakaryan and Arthur Grigoryan earlier
requested that the prosecutor general drop the charges against their
client for the lack of evidence.

They have released a statement saying that the February 12, 2011
decision to reject the appeal contains a wrong date (August 27, 2008).

“We consider the prosecutor’s decision illegal and groundless and will
appeal it in the court in a due manner,” runs the statement.
The lawyers state the decision contains no justification or proof for
holding Sukiasyan criminally liable.
