ARMENIAN PM DOES NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT SCIENTISTS’ VIEWPOINT – OPPOSITION

YEREVAN. – Oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC) shares the
fair concern of scientific society connected to the change of the
legal status of Yerevan Physics Institute (YerPhI). ANC scientific
and education committee released a statement on this connection.

“Armenian government on September 1st has made a decision and changed
the legal status of YerPhI. It was reestablished as foundation.

However, the decision was made without the participation of the
institute staff, without taking into account viewpoint of the
scientific society and proper scientific justifications. Changing
the legal status of the institute by the state aimed to escape
the financial obligations. This is the usual regime’s strategy. ANC
scientific and education committee shares fair concern of the society,
and believes it is necessary to stop the process of reestablishing the
institute into foundation. The state should first of all guarantee
the staff and scientific council of scientific research institute
to make decisions on their reestablishment freely and also provide
necessary conditions for scientific activities,” reads the statement.

Armenia To Have MPs Dealing Only With Legislature – MP

ARMENIA TO HAVE MPS DEALING ONLY WITH LEGISLATURE – MP

Armenia

YEREVAN. – There are many inaccuracies in the list of businessmen MPs
presented by oppositional Armenian National Congress (ANC), ruling
Republican Party MP Gagik Melikyan told the journalists on Wednesday.

“For example, ANC said as if I own a farm. I have no such a farm,
but if they gave me one, I would accept it with pleasure,” Melikyan
said and added that there will be time when MPs will only deal with
legislature.

In response to the report whether it means that not all MPs run
legislative activity, the MP said that everybody is aware of it.

During the dialogue with authorities ANC claimed that snap
parliamentary and presidential elections are essential and that
current parliament is illegitimate. The opposition stressed that 76
out of 131 Armenian MPs violate the Constitution and are directly
involved in their businesses.

Azeri Drone Reported Shot Down Over Karabakh

AZERI DRONE REPORTED SHOT DOWN OVER KARABAKH

Nagorno-Karabakh – Wreckage of what Karabakh Armenian forces say was an
Azerbaijani drone shot down on September 12, 14.09.2011 Emil Danielyan

Nagorno-Karabakh’s ethnic Armenian armed forces said on Wednesday
that they have shot down an unmanned Azerbaijani military aircraft
flying a reconnaissance mission over the disputed territory.

In a written statement, the Karabakh Defense Army said the drone was
downed in Karabakh’s eastern Martuni district on Monday as a result of
“special measures” taken by its anti-aircraft units.

“Fragments of the destroyed aircraft are at the disposal of the
Defense Army’s relevant services,” the statement said. “A commission
has been set up to examine details of the incident and an investigation
is underway.”

The Karabakh Armenian army also released several pictures of what it
described as the drone wreckage.

Nagorno-Karabakh – Wreckage of what Karabakh Armenian forces say was
an Azerbaijani drone shot down on September 12, 14Sep2011 Armenia’s
Dense Ministry confirmed the information. But there was no immediate
official reaction from Azerbaijan.

Armenian and Azerbaijani forces have previously not claimed to have
shot down air targets since a May 1994 truce that halted their bitter
war for Karabakh. The reported downing of an Azerbaijan unmanned
aerial vehicle (UAV) could therefore add to growing fears of renewed
large-scale fighting between them.

The Karabakh statement said that the Azerbaijani air force has been
engaged in “visible activity” along the Armenian-Azerbaijani “line of
contact” lately. “In recent days, the enemy’s unmanned aircraft have
carried out, with a fairly large frequency, reconnaissance flights
along the entire length of the border zone and, in some cases,
violated Artsakh’s (Karabakh’s) airspace,” it claimed, adding that
Karabakh air-defense forces have taken “adequate steps” in response.

Nagorno-Karabakh – Wreckage of what Karabakh Armenian forces say was an
Azerbaijani drone shot down on September 12, 14Sep2011 Azerbaijan is
known to have UAVs, most of them reportedly purchased from Israel. A
joint venture set up by the Azerbaijani government and the Israel
Aerospace Industries company began assembling Israeli-designed drones
in Azerbaijan last March.

Armenia officially announced in June that it too is manufacturing
UAVs. Colonel Armen Mkrtchian, deputy commander of the Armenian air
force, said they are capable of “carrying out objectives deep inside
enemy territory.”

The drones apparently designed by Armenian engineers are expected to
be put on display during a military parade in Yerevan scheduled for
September 21.

NKR: Ruben Zargarian: More And More Foreign Citizens Visit Karabakh

RUBEN ZARGARIAN: MORE AND MORE FOREIGN CITIZENS VISIT KARABAKH AND SPREAD THE TRUTH ABOUT THE COUNTRY ALL OVER THE WORLD

Tuesday, 13 September 2011 09:13

“The destructive policy of Baku administration is trite in its
aggressiveness. They in Baku sometimes call for shooting down civil
aircrafts, sometimes declare jihad against the NKR, sometimes occupy
and annex two border-line Russian villages, sometimes set secretly
the USA against Russia and the contrary”, stated in his interview to
the Analitika.at.ua Candidate of Historical Sciences, Advisor to the
Foreign Minister of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Ruben Zargarian.

“Baku’s administration is itching to prohibit somebody from doing
something, especially in the territories of the adjoining independent
states. It feels hurt that nobody asks it how to live, where to go,
and what to write. They in Baku are currently keen on making black
lists for those journalists, political figures, and experts who
visited the NKR.

With its furious PR-protests against journalists’ activities in
the Nagorno Karabakh Republic, Baku’s administration just draws the
attention of the international community to the NKR achievements and
balanced foreign policy, as well as demonstrates the poor level of
Azerbaijan’s political culture. More and more foreign citizens visit
the NKR and spread the truth about the country all over the world. The
Nagorno Karabakh Republic is accepted by sensible people as an organic
part of the civilized international community and a significant
factor of struggle against the international terrorism. Recently,
many experts and journalists have written that it is Azerbaijan that
breaks the negotiation process on the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict
settlement”, stated the expert.

Popular Comedian Says Armenian Show Biz Beats ‘Soviet-Mentality’ The

POPULAR COMEDIAN SAYS ARMENIAN SHOW BIZ BEATS ‘SOVIET-MENTALITY’ THEATER PRODUCTIONS

epress.am
09.14.2011 15:37

Of course, the theater is no place for show biz, but directors today
can’t bother to stage good productions, said popular funnyman and one
of the creators of the TV series “7.5â~@³ and the theater production
“No Comment” Hovhannes (Hovo) Azoyan.

Epress.am asked the comedic actor to comment on the following
statement by theater director, stage manager Nikolai Tsaturyan:
“We don’t want to see staged at the G. Sundukyan National Academic
Theatre those 8-and-a-half’s, 64 channels and 96 teeth [referring to
popular comedy clubs and productions], which give audiences material
that neither makes them think nor moves them.”

Azoyan said Tsaturyan’s remarks are not really aimed at show biz
creators.

“He himself doesn’t really know who he’s blaming. He said something
quite right: theater has to be so good that show biz [productions]
can’t stand the competition and they get out of the competition.

People more frequently see show biz [productions] since that’s what’s
diligently presented to them — show biz producers work quite well,”
said Azoyan.

In the actor’s opinion, that older-generation theater directors don’t
stage good productions is due to their “Soviet mentality.”

“To stage something that can be said to be good you have to think
freely, you have to a freethinker. But they believe in nothing —
not in themselves, not in what they do, neither in the outcome nor
in the country. They don’t believe in anything,” he said.
