Kremlin Lobbying Abkhazian Railway Link Restoration – Newspaper

KREMLIN LOBBYING ABKHAZIAN RAILWAY LINK RESTORATION – NEWSPAPER

YEREVAN, January 13./ARKA/. Secret negotiations over resumption of
Moscow-Sukhumi-Tbilisi-Yerevan railway route are under way in Moscow,
Novoe Vremya reports referring to Georgia Online.

Ucha Mamatsashvili, cousin of Georgia’s former premier and billionaire
Bidzina Ivanishvili, is negotiating now with Russian President Vladimir
Putin’s Advisor Vladislav Surkov.

Ivanishvili raised this issue yet when he visited Armenia as prime
minister and met with the Armenian president. When Russia signed an
allied agreement with Abkhazia, President Putin unveiled this very
plan of Kremlin.

It is specified in a separate provision that this transportation link
will be restored if Georgia and Armenia give their consent.

The signing of this document would mean recognition of Abkhazia’s
independence by Georgia, since in this document Abkhazia will be
presented as an independent entity. —0—–

Istanbul To Host Irish Photojournalist’s Exhibition On "Armenian Fam

ISTANBUL TO HOST IRISH PHOTOJOURNALIST’S EXHIBITION ON “ARMENIAN FAMILY STORIES”

10:38, 13 Jan 2015

Istanbul’s Depo art gallery will open an exhibition by Irish
photojournalist Helen Sheehan on Jan. 14.

In May 2014 Sheehan showed her projected photographic sound pieces
inside the restored Armenian church of St. Giragos in Diyarbakir
as part of a week-long photography festival hosted by Anadolu
Kultur/Diyarbakýr Arts Center, the Hurriyet Daily News reports.

Sheehan’s interest in Armenia and its diaspora was triggered
by working as a teacher in the Mechitarist Seminary school on the
Armenian Island of St. Lazzaro in Venice in the 1990s. However,
this interest was re-awakened again in 2009 when she decided to
narrate stories of Armenians in diaspora, both in Paris and London,
where she was able to forge relationships with descendants of the
exiles. By sheer coincidence most of the families could trace their
ancestors back to the province of Diyarbakir.

Sheehan tries to connect with their lost landscape and also attempts
to engage with the people now living in these places and how they
have transformed them into their own spaces.

“Sheehan attempts to engage with the people now living in these places
and how they have transformed them into their own spaces,” Depo said.

The exhibition titled “Armenian Family Stories and Lost Landscapes,”
will continue through Feb. 8.

A 16-Year-Old Armenian Community Of Marseille Beaten To Death

A 16-YEAR-OLD ARMENIAN COMMUNITY OF MARSEILLE BEATEN TO DEATH

RELEASE OF SOUTH CCAF

Camille Julian High School of Barasse (13011) was the scene today
Monday, January 12 as incomprehensible as a violent drama. A young
French member of the Apostolic scouts, Armenian, Michael ASSATURYAN,
has lost his life at 16 and a half, savagely attacked by a horde of
young people determined to kill him.

The CCAF South, Coordination Council of Armenians in France in the
southern region, condemn this tragedy and calls the court to act
quickly. This premeditated murder, follows many anti-Armenian actions,
and casts doubt on the nature of the attack. Violence strikes again
blindly with savagery.

While a show of solidarity invaded France, condemning the hatred of
the other, fanaticism and extremism, Marseille, following the great
citizen rally, is a sad example of a situation that has deleterious
for too long.

This tragedy highlights a climate of tension that prevails more in
our neighborhoods, and our young are the sad victims.

This young man by his exemplary voluntary commitment only wanted to
live a peaceful and serve his district and city.

The CFC, its sincere condolences, parents and friends of Michael.

He invites all who wish to pay tribute to this young activist, to
come together this Tuesday, January 13 at 19:30 Armenian Apostolic

HAYKAKAN ZHAMANAK: ARF-D REP TO BE ARMENIA’S AMBASSADOR TO GERMANY

09:00 * 13.01.15

Armenia’s next ambassador to Germany is again expected to be a member
of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D).

Citing its sources, the paper says that Levon Lazarian is the most
likely candidate to replaceVahan Hovhannesyan, the former ambassador
who died a year after his appointment last month.

But Lazarian himself has denied the report in comments to the paper.

The politician, who was Armenia’s foreign minister in 2001- 2002,
was reported to be a potential ambassador of Armenia to a European
country back in 2014, claims the paper.

Unpunished Genocide

UNPUNISHED GENOCIDE

Tuesday, 13 January 2015 09:16

Exactly 25 years ago, on January 13, 1990, mass killings of Armenians
began in Baku. For a week, unimaginable in their cruelty, brutality and
savagery outrages were taking place in the Azerbaijani capital city,
during which hundreds of innocent people were killed. The January
tragedy in Baku, actually, became the last link in the chain of mass
crimes committed in 1988-1990 against the Republic’s citizens of
Armenian nationality.

The events of the bloody week, which were the result of the
anti-Armenian policy consistently conducted by the Azerbaijani
authorities, put a fat point to the existence of the half a million
indigenous and state-forming Armenian population of Azerbaijan,
the exodus of which becameinevitable. A quarter of a century has
already passed since the tragedy in Baku, but it is still echoed
with inescapable pain in the hearts of both those who personally
experienced it and all ourcompatriots.

However, the pain has not subsided yet also because even after a
quarter of a century this terrible crime has not received yet an
adequate legal, political and moral assessment of the international
community. By the way, like all the similar crimes committed earlier
and later by the Baku authorities against the Armenian population both
in Azerbaijan and Artsakh. There cannot be two opinions on the fact
that the monstrous acts of violence against Armenians in Sumgait,
Kirovabad, Baku and other settlements of Azerbaijan were organized
by the authorities of the Republic. They were nationalist actions,
premeditated and planned at the state level, which is testified by
numerous indisputable facts and evidence of eyewitnesses, convincingly
proving the involvement of state structures in the organization of
the mass pogroms, massacres and forced deportation of Armenians.

The planned character of all these crimes allows to state definitely
the Armenophobic andopenly fascist nature of the Azerbaijani state,
no matter who is in power – the Communists, the so-called democrats
of the People’s Front, which were among the main organizers and
perpetrators of the Armenian pogroms in Baku, or representatives of
the current regime headed by Aliyev. It alsoallows us to state the
relationship of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in the early
twentieth century and the genocidal actions of Azerbaijan against the
Armenian population at the turn of the last and present centuries and
the in current days. It is because the criminal policy of these two
states is linked genetically, as it is based on a single ideology
– the ideology of pan-Turkism and extreme nationalism. The crimes
against the Armenian people committed in Ottoman Turkey and Azerbaijan
are the links of one chain and are qualified by international law as
crimes against humanity and mankind.

Another commonality – a policy of denying the Genocides committed
by them – makes native and brings together these two states, the
behavior of which against the Armenian people has not changed for
decades. The authorities of neither Turkey nor Azerbaijan say a single
word of repentance for the mass killing of innocent people. Moreover,
in order to avoid the responsibility for the atrocities committed
by them, the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem is attempting to equate the
victim and the executioner, presenting to the international community
blatant disinformation on the alleged crimes committed by Armenians
against Turks and Azerbaijanis.

Ankara and Baku have still more intensified their efforts to deny the
Armenian Genocide on the eve of the 100th anniversary of the tragedy
of the Armenian people by launching an appropriate propaganda campaign
to counter the international recognition of the Genocide. They do
not even hide the fact that they are acting jointly in this issue,
coordinating their actions. Thus, at a joint press conference of
Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Turkish President Erdogan during the
latter’s visit to Baku in last September, the joint activities by the
foreign ministries, diplomatic missions and Diaspora organizations
of Turkey and Azerbaijan on denying the Armenian Genocide were noted.

This once again confirms the indisputable truth that the mass crimes
committed by Azerbaijan in the 20s of the last century against the
indigenous Armenian population of Nagorno Karabakh, in particular,
extermination and expulsion of Armenians of Shushi, are an integral
part of the Armenian Genocide. It also confirmed the equal blame and
responsibility of Azerbaijan for the crimes of Genocide that have no
statute of limitation.

It is the impunity of the Azerbaijani authorities, as a consequence
of the indifference of the international community, that allowed the
relapse of the terrible tragedy to happen nowadays in the form of mass
crimes against the Armenian population of Sumgait, Kirovabad, Baku,
Maragha and a war unleashed against Nagorno Karabakh… All these
tragedies imperatively require an adequate assessment and condemnation
by corresponding international structures, as further keeping silence
is fraught with a new war and new violent tragedies. Azerbaijan is,
in fact, a terrorist state, as it has implemented a blatant policy
of state terror against the people of Artsakh for many years. But,
shouldn’t the present-day international community, which has faced the
threat of terrorism, take measures to protect the Nagorno Karabakh
Republic, which is building a sovereign democratic state, from the
aggressive claims of genocidal Azerbaijan? Or does the international
community consider that Artsakh itself should stop the threat of
Azerbaijani terrorism? Maybe it is so, but it is yet another issue.

Protest Against Russell Crowe’s Distortion Of History

PROTEST AGAINST RUSSELL CROWE’S DISTORTION OF HISTORY

From: The Greek Genocide: 1914-1923
To: Greek Genocide
Sent: Mon, Jan 12, 2015 6:43 pm
Subject: PROTEST: Russell Crowe’s new film a distortion of history

Russell Crowe’s new film about Gallipoli, The Water Diviner,
has offended many descendants of genocide survivors – Greeks and
Armenians alike – through its false portrayal of the events during
the period which the film is set. There has been public outrage on
our Facebook page, and for that reason, we’ve drafted a letter which
you may use to voice your opinion. You may address it to whomever you
choose, however we have listed some recommendations at the bottom of
the draft (see below) includingAndrew Anastasios the screenwriter,
and The Rabbitohs Rugby League team which Crowe is shareholder of,
and which is currently chaired by a good friend of Crowe’s, Dr Nick
Pappas. Let’s stand up and be a voice for our ancestors who were
brutally massacred during that period!

Dear

I am writing this letter to express my shock at the false portrayal of
historical events in the Russell Crowe film ‘The Water Diviner’. The
film is presented as being ‘inspired by actual events’, but as a person
whose family has been deeply affected by the genocide perpetrated
by the Ottoman Government during that period (1914-1923), I can say
that the events in the movie are far from the truth. In fact, they
are a gross distortion of it.

In May of 2013, the New South Wales Parliament officially recognised
the mass killing of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians during that period
as an act of genocide. Similar recognitions have occurred throughout
the world condemning the acts as genocide. Geoffrey Robertson QC has
for years been calling on Turkey to recognize its past, using the term
‘genocide’ to describe the events. Turkey has continuously denied
committing genocide, while the rest of the world has been calling
for recognition.

So how can a film such as The Water Diviner be made? How can a film
show the exact opposite? How can Russell Crowe direct a film in which
he portrays Greeks as satanic, while he portrays the Turks as victims?

Just two weeks before the ANZAC landings, some 32,000 indigenous Greeks
living in the Gallipoli peninsula were forcibly deported by the Ottoman
Turkish government, and many died of harsh conditions. Other Greeks
of Asia Minor such as those from Livissi (today Kayakoy) were also
victims of the genocidal campaign during that period. Ironically,
the final scenes in the movie were shot at the current ghost town of
Livissi, Turkey.

In 1919, the Greek Army was sent to the western Ottoman port city
of Smyrna (Izmir) via a British mandate, to protect the remaining
Christian population in Anatolia from further massacre. When Greek
forces landed, the Christians saw them as liberators. During and
after WW1, the international media widely reported Turkish massacres
against Greeks and Armenians. The methods used included mass killings,
death marches, rape, forced conversion to Islam and confiscation of
property amongst others.

On April 24, 1915, just one day prior to the ANZAC landing at
Gallipoli, the Ottoman government rounded up some 240 Armenian
intellectuals and most were killed. By 1923, over half of the Armenian
population (1.5 million people) was massacred, some 1 million Greeks,
and several hundred thousand Assyrians. All these events were happening
during the time period of the scenes depicted in The Water Diviner,
yet Russell Crowe managed to paint the Turks as victims.

The Water Diviner is a film that offends the descendants of genocide
victims and should therefore be condemned. If a film depicting Adolf
Hitler as a hero and the Jews as terrorists were made, the reaction
would be one of shock and outrage. Russell Crowe’s film is a distortion
of history that only serves to appease Turkey and its continued agenda
of genocide denial.
