We consider it unacceptable that the Armenian delegation participates
at the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization’s meeting in
Baku", Karabakh Liberation Organization (KLO) said in its statement
on Tuesday, APA reports.

KLO called on the Government of Azerbaijan not to allow the Armenian
delegation to realize their intention. The organization said it
didn’t agree with traditional arguments like international character
of the event, the necessity of observing the international law norms
and others.

KLO emphasized the necessity of prevention of Armenian delegation to
visit Baku.

KLO also protests the participation of Turkish foreign minister as
well. "We declared him persona non grata in Azerbaijan. He is one
of the authors of shameful project, which is a serious blow on the
interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey, and sowed seeds of hostility. We
don’t want the Turkish foreign minister to become target of our
protests together with the Armenian representative. Therefore we call
on the Turkish government not to send him to Baku."

SENATOR WYLAND ADDRESSES ARMENIAN COMMUNITY OF SAN DIEGO ON IMPORTANCE
OF CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

La Jolla, CA – California State Senator Mark Wyland (R-38) addressed an
audience of Armenian-American students at the University of California,
San Diego (UCSD) at the invitation of UCSD Armenian Students’
Association (ASA) and the Armenian Assembly of America (Assembly).
Wyland spoke about the significance of grassroots activism in reference
to California Senate Bill (SB) 234, commonly referred as the "Genocide
Awareness Act," as well as his support of educational initiatives aimed
to teach high school students on the importance of history as a tool to
prevent genocide.

"I really enjoyed speaking to this group of Armenian university students
and discussing the importance of students learning about all aspects of
world history, including genocide education, and such a study must
include the Armenian Genocide," stated Senator Wyland, adding, "I
especially appreciate the efforts and involvement of these students in
civics and our democracy."

The Assembly, an early proponent of the measure authored by Senator Mark
Wyland, activated its ARAMAC grassroots network in California to
encourage support and passage of the bill. The bill requires the
California Curriculum Commission to vote on the inclusion of an oral
history component related to genocides as part of its high school
curriculum, including the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923.

The Assembly, during the August district work period, met with Senator
Wyland to commend him for his initiative in keeping California at the
forefront of national politics as it pertains to human rights education
and genocide prevention. During the meeting, Senator Wyland expressed
interest in speaking to the Armenian youth throughout San Diego County
after hearing about their involvement in organizing the annual April
24th Genocide Commemorative Committee in San Diego County and in
advocating for passage of SB 234.

The hour-long discussion took place during the ASA’s first annual
meeting of the school year with over 80 students in attendance. Students
displayed a keen interest in learning about Senator Wyland’s interest in
genocide-related issues and in better understanding the politics in
Sacramento.

"On behalf of our executive team, I would like to thank Senator Wyland
for making time to speak to our group, the UCSD ASA," stated Nare
Avagyan, ASA President. "I am pleased with the number of people that
showed up, as well as the level of interest from the students. We hope
to be more involved in the community."

Established in 1972, the Armenian Assembly of America is the largest
Washington-based nationwide organization promoting public understanding
and awareness of Armenian issues. The Assembly is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt
membership organization.

"The events that happened during the signing of Turkish-Armenian
protocols in Zurich, Switzerland showed that the co-chairs can put
pressure on Armenia once they have willing", First Vice Speaker of
the Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov said.

"If they can tell Armenian foreign minister "sing and go", then they
can tell "pull out troops from Karabakh" as well".

The first vice speaker said the powerful countries were working with
quadruple standards.

"Their behavior should be based on ethics, respect for international
law. We should also put pressure on the OSCE Minsk Group. Co-chairs
can easily, if they want, exert pressure on Armenia".

Asgarov also talked about the Turkish-Armenian protocols.

"Our concerns with the protocols signed also relate to Turkey. We
know Armenians very well. Once the protocols are signed, they will
flock to Turkey and put forward territorial claims against Turkey. We
want Turkey to know that Sargsyan while sitting in Armenia says that
Armenia’s capital is in Turkey".

Have We Digressed?

Armen Aivazian, Director of the "Ararat" Center for Strategic Research,
thinks Armenian people have digressed from the core issue in debates
over Armenian-Turkish relations.

"Armenia’s foreign policy has ignored the Armenian Cause for 17 years,
this is the core issue," says Mr. Aivazian.

"Today they make conclusions on the Zurich meeting and bring different
reasons for the delay of the signing of the bilateral Protocols. But
the reasons lie in Armenia’s policy towards Turkey which sooner or
later would lead to this destructive outcome – signing of anti-Armenian
Protocols," says Armen Aivazian.

"Turkey is not excluded to ratify the Protocols but the country
will try to benefit from the documents to the maximum extorting more
concessions from Armenia, especially in view of the Karabakh conflict.

The Protocols carry some inadmissible provisions regarding the
recognition of borders, the territorial wholeness of the third country
in the region, etc."

Feudal Human Tragedy

FEUDAL HUMAN TRAGEDY
Yeghishe Metsarents

ahos15585.html

On October 17, a big party took place in connection with the wedding
of the son of the NA speaker Hovik Abrahamyan and the daughter of the
NA parliamentarian Gagik Tsarukyan. The ceremony was very luxurious,
much money was spent which is not surprising. The Armenian rich men
among which Hovik Abrahamyan and Gagik Tsarukyan are do not like
to spare moreover if the point is about their children and moreover
considering that "what they do they do for the sake of their children".

In accordance with this logic, they marry their children with each
other. This phenomenon when people having power and richness become
relatives is particular to monarchic or feudal periods when through
this way questions relating to the security were solved or they tried
to secure themselves from betrayals, they became relatives with their
rival family of course if they could not win them.

But in the world, this phenomenon which is still present within
royal families started yielding even on this plane. For example, the
Britain royal family accepted the marriage of the prince Charles and
lady Diana with great difficulty because Diana was not from such a
aristocratic family to be the wife of the prince. But the marriage
nevertheless took place. The Spanish prince went even farther and
married with an ordinary woman, a TV reporter and the Spanish royal
family which was against this marriage, nevertheless admitted it.

In Armenia, just the opposite seems to be taking place and the
tradition of monarchic or feudal marriages seems to get rooted more
and more. The children of the Armenian governmental elite started
getting marriage exceptionally with each other. There seems to be
no marriage between a governmental member’s son with a daughter
of an ordinary citizen, or the opposite. The whole elite become
relatives. This phenomenon is connected not only with the fact to
secure mutual security. The point is that the sons of the "elite"
do not communicate with ordinary citizens for any possibility to be
to connect their lives with one of them. Not only the "elite" but also
their children are always surrounded by bodyguards. It is natural that
under such conditions their children will have feelings only towards
each other because they communicate exceptionally with each other.

They do not have any opportunity to get acquainted with other people.

They are also likely to have been educated in a way not to even wish
to think about the necessity to communicate with other people, to
resist the isolation of their "elite" world. They grow with the same
values as their fathers and naturally, they believe that only those
alike them are worth their communication and the rest of humanity
must get surprised at the luxury of their marriages.

INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY CLOSED EYES TO ARMENIA’S DOMESTIC PROBLEMS IN RETURN FOR AUTHORITIES’ CONCESSIONS?

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Committee on the Protection of Political Prisoners
and Repressed Individuals in Armenia has addressed an open letter
to United States, Russian and French Presidents with a request to
release political detainees.

Authors of the letter express concern that international community
has ceased pressures on Armenian leadership following the start
of Ra-Turkish process. Considering the above mentioned, Committee
representatives are under the impression that international community
closes eyes to Armenia’s domestic problems in return for Armenian
authorities’ concessions.
