The games of the 5th round of the Armenian chess championships took place in the chess house named after Tigran Petrosyan.
Grandmaster Manuel Petrosyan from Artsakh became the sole leader in the men’s tournament, who defeated Zaven Andriasyan with black in the current match and scored 3.5 points. He is followed by 5 chess players who have 5 points each. They are former leaders Samvel Ter-Sahakyan, Hayk Martirosyan, Arman Pashikyan and Hovhannes Gabuzyan and Shant Sargsyan who joined them.
After 5 rounds, the current champion Susanna Gaboyan single-handedly leads the standings of the Women’s Championship, who beat Nare Arakelyan, who was equal with her, and scored 4 points. Grandmaster Maria Gevorgyan and international master Mariam Mkrtchyan are behind her by half a point, who also won in this round.
The games of the 6th round will take place tomorrow. Manuel Petrosyan in white will meet the current champion Hovhannes Gabuzyan. Susanna Gaboyan, the leader of the women’s tournament, will play in white with the defender Astghik Hakobyan.
