YEREVAN. – The text of the statement on Karabakh [(Artsakh)] and Syunik [Province of Armenia], which was recently published on the Internet but was secretly signed in December last year, should in fact normalize relations between the parties by December 18. Taron Simonyan, a member of the opposition Bright Armenia faction in the National Assembly (NA), said this Friday during the traditional briefings of the NA

Bright Armenia demands clear explanations in this regard from the government.

According to Simonyan, the published document contains only the text, whereas there is no signature in it from the Armenian side. “I do not know what power it has. Even if the current government signs it, it will be not only an anti-state and anti-national act, but a document which, in fact, will be in gross violation of the law and will be deprived of legal force,” the MP said.

Also, he stated that under Armenia’s constitution, in order for such documents to enter into force in the country, they need to be considered in the Constitutional Court, then in the National Assembly, and only after their ratification will they have any practical importance.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
