The statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov, testify to the fact that official Baku is not ready for progress in the negotiation of the settlement of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict. Artsakh president’s press secretary Davit Babayan told NEWS.am about this, commenting on the Azerbaijani minister’s statements.
“Mamedyarov’s statements can be evaluated in no other way than another manifestation of Baku’s destructive position. It is unclear who this is disrespecting, us or himself. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan promises the security and self-government of Nagorno Karabakh as a big concession. And what if we are deprived of it now? Along with similar statements, Baku continues to threaten war. Instead of resorting to unfulfilled dreams, the Azerbaijani authorities should change their rhetoric and approaches, start direct negotiations with the official Stepanakert. This would be a big step towards the substantive negotiations, as Mamedyarov likes to express himself,” Davit Babayan mentioned.
According to him, the scenario proposed by Azerbaijan envisages the appointment of Ramil Safarov as the governor-general of Karabakh as the next step. “Then there will be a complete set in the sense of “physical security”. It is sad that official Baku cannot give up its illusions and continues in the same spirit. The real goals of Azerbaijan have not changed,” stressed the press secretary of the Artsakh president.
