RA was elected a member of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency

On September 21, at the 61st session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, the Republic of Armenia was elected a member of the IAEA Board of Governors. This was reported by the RA MFA press service.


The Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency, together with the annual General Conference, is one of the two political structures of the IAEA. Only 35 of the 169 member states of the EAEU are members of the Board of Governors. The Council is responsible for the formulation of most of the IAEA’s policies. It develops and makes recommendations to the General Conference on the activities and budget of the IAEA, is responsible for the publication of the IAEA standards, appoints the Director General of the IAEA, submitting to the General Conference for approval.


The Republic of Armenia will serve in the Council of Governors for two years, starting from 2017. from September 25.
