Armenian Armed Forces once again used an unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) against the units of Azerbaijani Armed Forces on the frontline between the two countries’ troops, the country’s Defense Ministry said in a message June 22.
Due to its poor quality, the UCAV used by the Armenian Armed Forces didn’t cause any damage to the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, according to the message.
Azerbaijan’s Defense Ministry warned that adequate retaliatory actions will be devastating for the enemy.
The ministry earlier reported that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces destroyed a UCAV belonging to Armenia’s Armed Forces June 21 evening.
The UCAV attempted to carry out reconnaissance flights over the Azerbaijani army positions and was destroyed in the direction of Azerbaijan’s Terter District.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
