German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius sees little reason to expect a swift ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, despite trilateral talks scheduled for next week in Abu Dhabi involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia, BGNES news agency reported.
Pistorius said the prospects for a ceasefire largely depend on Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position and US President Donald Trump’s next steps.
“Events over the past few months offer no grounds for hope that Trump’s approach will quickly lead to a ceasefire, let alone peace,” Pistorius said.
He stressed that any agreement between Washington and Moscow reached without Ukraine’s participation or at its expense would be unacceptable.
The German defence minister emphasised that this position applies not only to Ukraine but also to European countries, whose security interests must be taken into account.
