“Zhoghovurd” daily writes:
According to the exclusive information of “Zhoghovurd” daily: Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Avinyan after the appearance of possible competitors in the government circles, he activated the discussions of ambitious plans for the development of the capital. According to our official sources, the goal is also to gain the trust of the people of Yerevan and strengthen their own position.
The newspaper wrote that he aims to become the mayor of Yerevan Alen Simonyan. Former assistant to the prime minister, Hayk Sargsyan’s brother, is also rumored to be running for the same position Nairi Sargsyan in relation to Thus, the possible competition for Avinyan’s seat is ripening within the government itself.
According to “Zhoghovurd” sources, Avinyan is going to announce the start of the construction of Ajapnyak metro station in early 2028. Until then, it is planned to carry out the design works again. Let’s note that the KP has been talking about the Ajapnyak metro for about 8 years, but the issue does not move forward beyond the design. The mayor’s team is also discussing major projects to build flyovers, repair roads and reduce congestion. But there are still no serious steps forward.
In this way, the problems of Yerevan residents, which have not been solved for years, also appear on the agenda of the internal competition of the government. The elections are still two years away, but Avinyan has already started strengthening his own positions.
The question is: will the people of Yerevan see the results of these programs before the elections, or will repeated promises serve to keep the mayor’s seat?
Let’s not forget Avinyan’s role in the failure of the biggest post-revolutionary project. ANIF fund squandered about 70 million dollars, was liquidated, the head of which was the same Avinyan.
