Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade will continue efforts to normalise and develop relations with neighbouring countries in 2027.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan said this at a joint sitting of the National Assembly’s standing committees.
“Our commitment is to make the signing of a peace agreement with Azerbaijan possible as soon as possible, followed by its ratification. In the meantime, we will, of course, continue to expand a range of measures and cooperation that further strengthen peace, such as bilateral trade,” Mirzoyan said.
The minister also addressed relations with Armenia’s western neighbour, Türkiye.
“Our dialogue with Türkiye is quite active and productive. There have been specific instances of cooperation, and these will continue: the joint restoration of the historic Ani bridge, programmes for students and an Armenian–Turkish business forum. The first was held in Kars, and the next is planned in Armenia next year.
“Previously, trade between Armenia and Türkiye was technically conducted through a third country. That obstacle has been removed: it is now direct in customs terms, although geographically it still passes through Georgia. Yes, despite all the progress, the Armenia–Türkiye border remains closed at present. But this process has matured to such an extent that the border could open and diplomatic relations could be established at any moment,” the minister said.
Mirzoyan stressed that Armenia would continue in the same spirit to develop and further strengthen its strategic partnerships with Georgia and Iran.
