European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has said that Armenian citizens are one step closer to being able to travel to the European Union without a visa.

Kos made the remarks on her Facebook page.

“Armenians are one step closer to travelling to the European Union without a visa.

“With EU support, Armenians will now be able to get new biometric passports, making border checks faster and travel easier.

“Armenia is choosing closer ties with Europe and we are making that choice count for its people,” Kos wrote.

Armenia launched its biometric passport issuance system on 1 November. The introduction of the biometric system is an important component of EU visa liberalisation for Armenian citizens. Armenia is currently the only country engaged in a visa liberalisation dialogue with the European Union.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
