Speaking on Thursday at a joint meeting of the National Assembly’s standing committees to discuss the draft state budget for 2027, the minister noted that previously, trade between Armenia and Turkey, in terms of customs procedures, was conducted through a third country.
According to him, this obstacle was removed during the current year, and now imports and exports of goods between the two countries are processed directly. The Armenian-Turkish land border remains closed, and shipments continue to be processed through Georgia.
Mirzoyan also announced plans to hold the next Armenian-Turkish business forum in Armenia in early 2027. The first such forum took place this summer in Kars, Turkey, and, according to the minister, generated significant interest among entrepreneurs from both countries.
Among other areas of bilateral cooperation, he mentioned the joint reconstruction of the historic Ani Bridge and scholarship programs for students.
Regarding the prospects of opening the border, Mirzoyan noted that the parties have reached a mutual understanding on many issues related to the normalization of relations.
“The opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey could occur at any time,” the minister stated.
According to him, discussions between the parties are ongoing. Mirzoyan also noted the potential economic benefits of opening the border for Armenia and the importance of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations for regional development.
