“Fact” daily writes:
Today, Armenia has entered a stage where simultaneous pressures from different fronts threaten to undermine the foundations of statehood. On the head of the country’s economy hangs the imminent disaster of the possible increase in the price of Russian natural gas, which will inevitably lead to a chain increase in the prices of goods and services, putting the society and the economic system in front of a complete collapse. In parallel with this, the uncertain, vague and fading future of the peace process in the foreign political arena, as well as the most serious security challenges, are creating deep apocalyptic moods in the country. The society lives in a severe atmosphere of undeniable crisis and uncertainty, where social grievances reach their fatal peak.
Against this background, in a conversation with journalists in the courtyard of the court, the chairman of the “Strong Armenia” party, Samvel Karapetyan, referred to the urgent problems in the country. He particularly noted that the possible increase in the price of gas is a direct result of the working style of the Prime Minister, who, in fact, is negotiating not to prevent the price, but to increase it, with the aim of once again impoverishing the Armenian people, who are already in difficult social conditions.
According to Karapetyan, this also has a political calculation, because the main electoral support of the government today is those communities and people where the poverty level exceeds 50 percent.
Referring to internal political developments, Karapetyan stressed that the October 25 local self-government elections were a real defeat for the ruling power. He added that the claims of the authorities that the opposition has been crushed are absolutely false, and these elections remind us of a political “psychiatry”, after which the process of power change will inevitably begin a few months later.
Speaking about possible early parliamentary elections, Karapetyan was skeptical about their implementation, reminding that the authorities barely managed to secure about 49 percent of the votes after spending huge resources of about 1 billion dollars. He emphasized that in Armenia today there is not just a change of opposition, but a systemic change of power, because the country needs exclusively pro-state authorities, in contrast to the forces that are unable to face external challenges. At the end of the conversation, Karapetyan expressed confidence that even in the scenario of early elections, the victory will be their team’s.
Summarizing the created situation, it becomes obvious that Armenia is facing a crisis where economic pressures and political inactivity threaten to turn into an irreversible state disaster. The expected increase in the price of gas is not only an economic indicator. it is a bomb of social explosion and final impoverishment of society, which further deepens the deficit of trust in the government. The turmoil in the political field, the results of local government elections and the harsh assessments of opposition figures show that the existing system is no longer able to manage the crisis or offer the public a reliable vision of the future. The socio-economic and political background created in the country proves that it is no longer possible to suppress the deepening grievances with superficial steps or short-term manipulations, and the public demand more and more clearly formulates the need for radical and state-centered changes.
