The rules of the geopolitical game have changed

As a nation and a state, we need to understand the extremely important change that took place in the fate of the South Caucasus in 2023. With the fall of Artsakh and the processes that followed it.

In our region, the bipolar geopolitical game between Russia and the conventional collective West has come to an end, in the framework of which the policy of Russian military-political supremacy was defeated by the expulsion of Russian peacekeepers from Artsakh, and the EU policy based on liberal values and human rights was equally defeated by the ethnic cleansing of Artsakh’s population.

Trump’s USA, India, Pakistan, Israel and Iran and Turkey, which have almost completely lost their historical role in the past, have appeared as new individual players in the region with varying degrees of role and levels.

The geopolitical game has become much more complex, multi-sided and multi-polar, where, despite the above-mentioned defeat, Russia and the EU also retain significant leverage.

Taking all this into consideration, the regionalization of the three countries of the South Caucasus based on “eternal peace” or in other words, the possibility of acting as a unified region, as in the previous bipolar game, is now almost equal to zero.

The difference, however, compared to the previous one, is huge, because every state of the South Caucasus will have to act in the domains of overlapping and conflicting interests of not two, but several parties at once.

If we do not begin to understand this and do not prepare to act in the best way in such difficult conditions, then we will constantly be in the status of losers and losers.
