YEREVAN, October 29. /ARKA/. Armenia is considering purchasing natural gas from Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia, Armenian Security Council Secretary Alen Simonyan said at a briefing on Thursday.

Responding to a journalist’s question about which countries are being considered as alternative gas suppliers, Simonyan said: “Of all possible countries.”

“We have the opportunity to supply from Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia. We are using all opportunities,” he said.

Simonyan also spoke about the prospects for developing trade and economic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“As I once said in the National Assembly, our relations will develop even further; we will trade with each other,” he noted.

Simonyan noted that his previous statements about the possibility of gas purchases provoked a strong reaction in parliament. “When I said we would buy gas, everyone in the National Assembly was so alarmed, saying, ‘What did he just say? What did he just say?’ We’ll buy gas and oil. We’re already buying gasoline, and so on,” he stated.

However, when asked whether substantive negotiations on gas supplies were underway, Simonyan said he had no relevant information.

“I can’t say; I don’t have that information because I’m more concerned with humanitarian issues,” he explained.

On Russian Gas and Armenia

The issue of a possible increase in the price of Russian gas for Armenia is being discussed against the backdrop of Yerevan’s rapprochement with the European Union.

In May 2026, Moscow warned of the possibility of revising the current gas supply agreements if Armenia continues its EU accession process.

A report published in October by representatives of four EAEU countries considered a scenario involving a 69% increase in the price of Russian gas for Armenia—from $177.5 to $300 per thousand cubic meters.

However, no official decision on the price increase has been made. The base contract price for Russian gas at the Armenian border is $165 per thousand cubic meters.
