Our relations with Putin have always been good, aren’t we at odds with each other?

October 15, 2026

Armenia’s relations with the Russian side have never been cold. Nikol Pashinyan said in a briefing with journalists after the government meeting, responding to the journalist’s question, that there is an impression that Pashinyan’s attitude towards Russia has changed, his position has softened.

“Nothing has changed in our contacts, there is a certain working atmosphere, certain relations, even if there are some problems on the diplomatic or other agenda, we don’t disturb each other or we don’t talk to each other,” said Pashinyan.

According to him, the relations with the Russian side have always been good, he is sure that they will continue to be good.

As for the issue of the nuclear power plant, Pashinyan mentioned that Armenia is looking for the best offer: price, quality, term. The issue is not politicized. According to him, the Armenian side is also looking for the best solution regarding the railway.

According to him, in 2026 in April, he had a conversation with the Russian side about the railway, noting that investments in the railway are necessary. According to him, the Russian partners said that it is not economically expedient.

“We said: very good, let’s invite others to make an investment. They said: “That option is not very acceptable for us.” We said, “It will not happen that neither this nor that,” said Pashinyan.

According to him, if it was possible without investments in case of blockade, now, when the region is opening up, large investments are needed to develop the railway in order to be competitive with Kars-Diliju. At the same time, according to Pashinyan, the load will be so great that there is no question of competition.

According to Pashinyan, if the Russian partners present an appropriate solution regarding the railway, official Yerevan is ready to consider it. It is possible that one day the Western investors will announce that the Russian concession is not a problem for them.
