On page 109 there is a section entitled “The Khanates of Western Azerbaijan”. The accompanying text is as follows:

“The khanates that arose in Western Azerbaijan were distinguished by their strategic location and being on international trade routes. For this reason, they were subjected to the attacks of neighboring khanates and foreign states.

What was the political and economic situation of Western Azerbaijan at that time, particularly in the khanates of Irevan and Nakhichevan?

Khanayun of Irevan. The Khanate of Irevan was founded in the mid-18th century by Mir Mehdi Khan Afshar (1747–1752). In 1755, Hasan Ali Khan Ghajar became Khan of Irevan, which marked the emergence of a new dynasty from the Ghajar tribe.

Population of Khanty. The Khanate population of Irevan was mainly composed of Azerbaijani Turks, who are described as the oldest inhabitants of this land. This is confirmed by the place names of that period, the stories of European travelers who visited Irevan, and even by Armenian historians.

Christians, who make up only a small part of the population, first arrived in 1441, when the Armenian Catholicos was moved from Klikia to the Irevan region of Azerbaijan, specifically Uchkilse (Echmiadzin). Before this transfer, according to reports, there were no Armenian settlements or lands in the region.

Later, the Armenian Catholicos expanded its territory by seizing the lands belonging to the local Azerbaijanis by various means.

This is what a 12-13 year old child learns in Azerbaijan. They are not confidently preparing him for peace, but on the basis of false and unsubstantiated rumors, they are teaching him that neighboring Armenia is “his historical land” with all the dangerous consequences arising from it.
