Lori Governor Aren Mkrtchyan has announced that he has declined his parliamentary mandate in the National Assembly to be formed following Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections and will continue serving as governor of Lori Province.

Mkrtchyan announced the decision in a Facebook post.

“I have declined my mandate as a member of the National Assembly and will continue my work as Governor of Lori Province,” Mkrtchyan wrote.

Three political forces won seats in Armenia’s parliament following the June 7 elections: the ruling Civil Contract party, the Strong Armenia alliance and the Armenia alliance. Civil Contract will hold 64 seats in the new National Assembly, Strong Armenia 29 seats, and the Armenia alliance 12 seats.

Mkrtchyan was ranked 20th on the Civil Contract party’s electoral list. He has served as governor of Lori Province since September 2025.

Earlier, Shirak Governor Davit Arushanyan and Vayots Dzor Governor Vahagn Arsenyan also announced that they had declined their parliamentary mandates in the newly elected legislature.
