Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan held a meeting on Tuesday with Latvia’s Prosecutor General Armīns Meisters, who is visiting Armenia to participate in the high-level international conference titled “Tracing Illegally Acquired Assets: Criminal Prosecution, Asset Recovery and Management of Confiscated Property, and Strengthening a Victim-Centered Approach in Criminal Justice,” held within the framework of the Armenian Platform for European Prosecutors’ Dialogue (APEPD).

According to a readout, Anna Vardapetyan welcomed the delegation, expressed gratitude to her Latvian counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit Armenia and participate in the forum, and congratulated Armīns Meisters on assuming the position of Prosecutor General.

She expressed confidence that his professional experience and knowledge would make an important contribution to the development of the Latvian prosecution service and its ability to effectively respond to modern challenges.

The Prosecutor General of Armenia emphasized the importance of the Latvian delegation’s participation in the APEPD discussions. She noted that, based on the successful experience of high-level international conferences held in Armenia in 2023–2025 in cooperation with European partners, it was decided to institutionalize this format of professional dialogue and make it a continuous process.

During the meeting, the parties discussed international legal cooperation between Armenia and Latvia in criminal proceedings. The sides noted that the international legal framework currently in place between the two countries enables the effective implementation of requests for mutual legal assistance, as demonstrated by statistical data on cooperation in recent years.

The parties also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in combating transnational crime, with particular attention given to the tools and mechanisms provided by Eurojust.

The Prosecutors General of Armenia and Latvia reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening international cooperation, exchanging professional experience, and deepening bilateral partnership. They emphasized that such formats play an important role in enhancing the effectiveness of prosecution systems and jointly addressing contemporary challenges.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
