Authorities have arrested Hayakve initiative member Avetik Chalabyan.
Hayakve, often stylized as HayaQve, was formed as a civil legislative initiative, and Chalabyan serves as its coordinator.
The Investigative Committee confirmed the arrest to Armenpress.
Investigators said Chalabyan was detained on allegations that he sought to enlist foreign officials to use their influence to affect Armenian voters and support the Strong Armenia bloc during the June 7 parliamentary election, which amounts to election meddling and obstruction of exercising electoral rights.
The Investigative Committee said Chalabyan allegedly traveled abroad to discuss the scheme with government officials from another country, which investigators did not disclose.
Prosecutors charged Chalabyan with conspiring to obstruct the free exercise of electoral rights.
A court is set to hear investigators’ motion to place him in pretrial detention.
Update shows the allegations and indictment.
