Verelq: The new business card of Armenia. The Guardian’s coverage of Christ in the making

The prestigious British periodical The Guardian made extensive reference to the statue of Jesus Christ being built in Armenia.

After an interview with Gagik Tsarukyan, The Guardian columnist Pyotr Saoer writes: “Tsarukyan has chosen an ambitious project to build the world’s tallest statue of Jesus Christ, which will be placed on top of a mountain overlooking Yerevan, about 2,500 meters above sea level. For some, this is a symbol of Armenia’s centuries-old Christian heritage.” Then he quotes the words of Gagik Tsarukyan: “This will be Armenia’s business card. Christianity will become the new brand of Armenia.”

Gagik Tsarukyan made a remarkable discovery in the interview. US President Donald Trump will also be invited to the opening ceremony of the statue, and the unofficial American delegation formed through the US Embassy has already visited the place of construction of the statue.

“After completion, the 101-meter-high statue will be placed on Mount Hatis, about 25 kilometers east of Yerevan, and will be visible from most parts of the capital. Tsarukyan, with obvious satisfaction, emphasizes that it will exceed the height of the famous Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil and will be slightly higher than the Statue of Liberty in New York,” the columnist continues.

“We are the oldest Christian nation in the world. It is completely natural that we should have the largest statue of Jesus in the world,” says Tsarukyan, emphasizing that the most important thing is that this monument is intended not only for Armenian believers, but also for visitors from all over the world. Tsarukyan is sure that in the future about 10 million tourists will visit that place.

“There is nothing like it in the world. Everyone from ocean to ocean will be talking about it,” he says with confidence, detailing that the statue of Jesus is just the beginning.

“Nearby, the construction of another biblical project, the huge Noah’s Ark, has already begun. Showing images of the project on his phone, he says that the ark will be 134 meters long, 24 meters wide and 18 meters high,” the author concludes.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
