Verelq: Armenia will support measures aimed at protecting victims of crises


At the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) session dedicated to humanitarian issues, the Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, Paruyr Hovhannisyan, reaffirmed Armenia’s commitment to support international efforts aimed at increasing the effectiveness of humanitarian operations and protecting people affected by crises. This is reported by the RA representation at the UN.


He emphasized the full observance of international humanitarian law and humanitarian principles, expressing concern about attacks against the civilian population and civilian infrastructure, the access to humanitarian aid, as well as the obstruction of access to international humanitarian organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross.


Presenting Armenia’s experience in overcoming humanitarian challenges in the region, Ambassador Hovhannisyan stressed that humanitarian actions must be accompanied by continuous efforts to promote recovery, build resilience and promote inclusiveness.


Addressing Armenia’s response to the massive influx of refugees, he emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions that support refugees and host communities. The programs implemented by the Armenian government in cooperation with UN agencies aimed at the protection of refugees and their long-term integration were mentioned.
