VERELQ received a letter from a resident of Ajapnyak, which we present below.
These days we often talk about problems, shortcomings and gaps. However, there are cases when the society is obliged to speak about those people who perform their work with exceptional dedication, responsibility and high human virtues.
A recent incident in Ajapniak administrative district proved once again that there are people working next to us, for whom service duty is not just a job, but a real mission.
A few days ago, renovation and welding works were being done in our garden. During the welding, sparks fell on the ground and suddenly the ground started to burn. At first it seemed strange, but when we started to dig the burning part, it turned out that gas accumulated under the ground was burning.
Realizing the seriousness of the situation and possible dangerous consequences, I immediately called Nelly Anakhasyan, the gas service inspector of our district. Despite the fact that there was very little time left for the end of the working day, he organized the appropriate response without losing a second and sent the head of the gas pipeline service station, Armen Badalyan, to the scene.
After Mr. Badalyan arrived, he carefully examined the area and expressed his suspicion that we are dealing with a gas leak. However, he was not satisfied with mere speculation. After a very short time, he returned with special equipment and a specialist. As a result of the inspections, it was possible to find the possible leakage zone, after which the head of the Ajapnyak gas office Mikayel Mikayelyan and technical deputy Mkhitar Movsisyan were informed.
It was from that moment that the work began, which is difficult to evaluate by ordinary standards.
Although the working day had already ended, the management of the Ajapnyak gas office and the entire gas pipeline maintenance staff gathered as one person and arrived at the scene. Large-scale search and rescue operations began. Hours passed, but people did not leave. They worked with the awareness of responsibility that before them was not another technical problem, but the safety of hundreds of people.
The work continued until after midnight. When it was not possible to finally find the damaged part that day, the specialists first ensured all the necessary safety conditions and decided to continue the search the next morning.
The next day, at the appointed time, all the personnel and equipment were already in place. The tense and responsible work began again, which continued until one o’clock in the morning. And only then was the true scale of the problem revealed.
It turned out that the main pipe of the gas pipeline was damaged in six different places. Natural gas had leaked for a long time and accumulated under the asphalt of the street, as well as in the soil layers of the adjacent parks. According to experts, an extremely dangerous situation was created, which could lead to unpredictable and tragic consequences at any moment.
Fortunately, that did not happen. It didn’t happen only because a group of responsible people performed their duties not formally, but with dedication and professionalism.
Today, when the danger has already passed, as a resident and a direct witness of that incident, I want to express my deep gratitude to Nelly Anakhasyan, Armen Badalyan, Mikayel Mikayelyan, Mkhitar Movsisyan and all the employees of Ajapnyak gas office who worked tirelessly for two days to protect people’s lives and safety.
They fixed the technical problem and prevented a possible disaster.
Our society often does not see the people who work behind the scenes, in the cold, in the heat, at night or on holidays. However, thanks to their work, our houses are warm, our streets are safe, and our everyday life is peaceful.
This story should become known not only as an example of a successfully solved accident, but also as an example of human responsibility, professional honor and high consciousness of a public servant.
Praise and thanks to those people who are the first to come to help in times of danger and the last to leave work.
