111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide commemorated in Brussels

On April 24 in Brussels, the diplomatic missions of the Republic of Armenia participated in events marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 

The commemorations began at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Belgium and continued with an official ceremony held at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of the martyrs of 1915, the Embassy of Armenia to Belgium and Mission of Armenia to the EU said in a press release.

During the commemoration ceremony, remarks were delivered by Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Republic of Armenia in Brussels Vardan Sargsyan, Mayor of Ixelles Christos Doulkeridis, Member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives Michel De Maegd, Senator Karl Vanlouwe, and President of the Committee of Armenians in Belgium, Robert Unusyan.

In his speech, Vardan Sargsyan addressed the importance of preserving the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, presenting the initiatives of the Republic of Armenia on international platforms aimed at preventing genocides and crimes against humanity, and emphasizing the imperative of joint efforts within this agenda.

The event was also attended by members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Belgium, as well as high-ranking officials from the executive and legislative branches, members of parliament, and representatives of Armenian community organizations in Belgium.

At the conclusion of the event, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at the khachkar dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide.
