April 24 2026

ZAHLE, Lebanon — At the invitation of the Armenian community in Zahle, Jalala, and Riyaq, Lebanon, the Zahle Directorate of the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) took part in commemorations marking the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

A delegation from the party’s executive committee, headed by party coordinator Rabih Azouki, laid a wreath in the party’s name at the memorial monument in the courtyard of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church. The gesture honored the victims of the Armenian Genocide, as well as those of the Sayfo Genocide targeting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, and the victims of the Mount Lebanon famine.

Following the prayer service, Fr. Elishan Abartian of the Armenian Catholic Church and Fr. Krikor Yegiaian of the Armenian Orthodox Church delivered speeches reflecting on the occasion, emphasizing the importance of preserving collective memory and upholding truth and justice.

The ceremony concluded with Armenian parties and clubs laying wreaths at the memorial monument. Armenians around the world commemorate their martyrs annually on 24 April.
