The anti-corruption fight in Armenia gives tangible results. about 773 million dollars worth of property of illegal origin was returned to the state and communities.

This was announced by the Prosecutor General at the government meeting on March 19 Anna Vardapetyanstressing that the law enforcement system has reached a stage when criminal cases are sent to court and judgments in illegal property confiscation proceedings are made almost simultaneously.

Of the total returned assets, $504 million worth of property was transferred directly to the state. In addition, more than eighty illegal buildings have already been dismantled in the coastal part of Lake Sevan within the framework of the restoration of legality.

As a recent example of successful work, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan presented the return of the seven thousand square meter plot of land near the TV tower of the capital to the state.

This area, worth more than one million dollars, the contract of alienation of which was signed back in 2005, will now be given to the Ministry of Environment for the purpose of forest protection.

The Prosecutor General detailed that this episode is related to the settlement concluded with the confiscation proceedings of the assistant of the former mayor of Abovyan, Karapet Guloyan, and the case against the former mayor itself has already been sent to the court with a confirmed indictment. In the same area, five more similar plots were allocated to the state.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
