The explosion in the Surmalu shopping center took place on August 14 at 13:23. A possible cause was a fire in a pyrotechnics warehouse, where, according to head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations Armen Pambukhchyan, up to 4 tons of explosives were stored. 16 people died, 1 citizen is considered missing, 62 people were hospitalized, 4 of them continue treatment in medical institutions of the republic. The General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic initiated a criminal case on the fact of the explosion and its consequences.
