UK’s Johnson secures Conservative vote of confidence, remains Prime Minister

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Leader of the UK Conservative Party and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson received support of Conservative lawmakers and will remain in these offices, according to the outcome of the vote of confidence, announced by Graham Brady, leader of the 1922 Committee, reports TASS.

According to the Committee leader, who plays the key role in appointing a new party head when it becomes necessary, a total of 211 Conservative MPs voted in Johnson’s support, while 148 voted against him. In order to remain a party leader, Johnson needed to secure a simple majority of votes. The vote of confidence became necessary after 54 Conservative lawmakers expressed their discontent over the scandal around the parties that took place in the Prime Minister’s office amid Covid restrictions in 2020-2021.

Johnson has been leading the government since 2019.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. VK First Deputy CEO Vladimir Gabrielyan and the company’s procurement director Sergey Merzlyakov died in an accident in the Nenets Autonomous Region in Russia’s Arctic, the Russian social networking company told TASS.

“Very sad news emerged this morning about the tragic death of Vladimir Gabrielyan and Sergey Merzlyakov in an accident. We mourn [their deaths] with their families and friends”, the VK press service said.

Earlier, the Union of Reindeer Herders reported that Gabrielyan had gone missing near the village of Shoina. The all-terrain vehicle he was riding in overturned.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Match officials have been appointed for UEFA Nations League B league Group 1 match between Scotland and Armenia, the Football Federation of Armenia said.

The referee is Sebastian Gishamer (AUT), assistant referees are Maximilian Weiss (AUT) and Jasmin Sabanovic (AUT), the 4th official is Christopher Jaeger (AUT). The Video Assistant referee will be Felix Zwayer (GER), and the Assistant Video Assistant Referee Stefan Lupp (GER).

Scotland-Armenia match will take place on June 8 at 22:45 (Yerevan time).

11 Armenian servicemen hospitalized after car crash in Vayots Dzor province

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. 11 Armenian servicemen (1 officer, 10 conscripts) were hospitalized after a car crash in Vayots Dzor province on June 7, the defense ministry of Armenia said in a statement.

“One of the servicemen suffered a broken rib, the others suffered minor injuries and are in satisfactory condition”, the ministry said, adding that their lives are not in danger.

Today, at around 10:40, a vehicle of the defense ministry of Armenia overturned on the Yerevan-Meghri highway. The circumstances of the incident are still unknown.

The United States is committed to peace, security, and prosperity in the South Caucasus region, the U.S. President’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said at the meeting with Head of the Foreign Relations Department of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Hikmat Hajiyev.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Minister of High Technological Industry Robert Khachatryan received the delegation led by Ambassador of Russia to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin, the ministry said in a news release.

Welcoming the guests, Robert Khachatryan highlighted the constructive cooperation existing between the ministry and the Russian Embassy, the importance of programs of bilateral interest and expressed readiness to implement them consistently.

The Russian Ambassador congratulated the Armenian minister on appointment and stated that IT industry is very important in terms of developing the Armenian-Russian relations and strengthening the mutual partnership.

The minister introduced the Ambassador on the cooperation process and programs with the Russian side in the field of additive technology.

Robert Khachatryan and Sergei Kopyrkin discussed also issues relating to the Armenian ministry’s participation to the upcoming international economic forum in St. Petersburg in June.

In his remarks Minister Khachatryan said that recently Russian IT companies are showing great interest to working in Armenia, which, he said, could boost competitiveness in the local market.

Robert Khachatryan and Sergei Kopyrkin touched upon also the importance of developing the space services. The minister briefed the Ambassador on some details connected with the first Armenian space satellite.

A broad range of issues relating to the expansion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest were discussed.

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian airline FLYONE Armenia is expanding the geography of its flights, Chairman of the Board of FLYONE Armenia Aram Ananyan told a press conference in Armenpress, adding that they consider several important destinations of the Middle East.

“We plan to include Tehran and Beirut this year, and if possible, we will expand the geography in other directions. Our goal is to increase the passenger flow to and outside Armenia. The demand for aviation services is increasing globally. Research shows that the current demand for aviation services passes the pre-pandemic figures. As an airline, we should do everything to meet this demand by responding to the international trends”, Aram Ananyan said.

The airline has recently enlarged its aviation park with a new aircraft. The third aircraft – Airbus A319 with 144 seats, has already arrived in Armenia. It allows to expand the geography of flights, add new directions, increase the frequency of flights and provide aviation services in better quality.

“You know that problems emerged with the possibility of transit through Turkey’s airspace. I would like to note that the problems were resolved also with the active support of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia”, Aram Ananyan said.

Starting June 17, the airline is resuming the regular direct flights from Yerevan to Lyon and Paris. The Chairman of the Board said that the possibility of operating charter flights in summer to popular vacation sites for Armenians is also being considered.

COAF’s smart center offering informal education expected to be built in Armenia’s Kapan town

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. It is expected to build a smart center in Armenia’s Kapan town, which will offer an informal education, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan said at the joint session of parliamentary standing committees.

Talking about the Kapan program, the deputy minister said that the government examined the number of beneficiary children in 31 rural settlements, the distance of the settlements, their location and the condition of buildings. “And as a result of these studies, it has been planned to organize education in 13 educational facilities, which will be a place for implementation of pre-school, school and additional educational programs”, she said.

Zhanna Andreasyan said there is a chance to increase the component of informal education. “Within the framework of the EU programs, the possibility of building a smart center by COAF, the Children of Armenia Fund, in Kapan enlarged community is also being discussed”, she said.

A similar center is operating in Debed community in Lori province, which the deputy minister calls a very good environment of informal education. It offers different course to around 2000 children from 27 communities. “We will have a similar center in Kapan enlarged community. And our formal education program, by joining this atmosphere of informal education, will form an entire ecosystem and will enable to have a high-quality education”, the deputy minister said, adding that this is one of the programs that is being discussed with the EU’s support.

Uruguayan director’s film on Artsakh conflict screened in Montevideo

YEREVAN, JUNE 7, ARMENPRESS. Uruguayan movie director Federico Lemos’s film “We Are Our Mountains” about the Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) conflict, has been screened in the National Auditorium of Sodre Dr. Adela Reta of Uruguay, Diario Armenia reports.

Among around 2000 attendees there were also representatives of culture, art, media of Uruguay, officials and members of the Armenian community.

The movie tells the story of the Artsakh conflict from the viewpoints of four Armenians living in the region.

The Armenian Sardarapat journal of Argentina reports that Lemos said that shooting this film has been a real challenge for him. He said that after looking at the activity of the Armenian community of Uruguay, how they try to preserve their own roots and traditions, all these made him go further into the topic.

The film has already been sent to more than 60 international movie festivals.

“We Are Our Mountains” was filmed in Stepanakert, Goris, Oshakan, Sevan, Gyumri, Yerevan, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, San Paolo and Los Angeles.
