Chinese tourist: Policeman sexually assaulted me in Yerevan

NEWS.am
Armenia –

Chinese Lei Manna, who came to Armenia as a tourist in early June, claims that she was recently sexually assaulted by a police officer in Yerevan.

“In Yerevan, the policeman touched my body, and I found myself in an awkward situation. The incident took place on 2 June, that day I applied to the police because the hotel did not return my money. When the police arrived, I was standing near the hotel. One of them touched my chest with his hand and squeezed it, then put his hand on my shoulder and said, “I will protect you, I will be with you.” And when we were in the car, where there were two other policemen and an interpreter beside us, he hugged me and said, “You are beautiful.” I think I was sexually assaulted. I felt very bad because that man touched me,” the Chinese tourist told NEWS.am.

Lei Manna tried to report the incident to the police, but the police refused to accept the report, saying that there were no elements of a crime in the incident. The Chinese woman told us the name of the policeman, which we do not publish. “The police told me that it was nothing and they could not process my application, but for me, it is not. A police officer on duty in China has no right to touch a woman’s body. They can hold hand or touch hair, but not the chest. The policeman would be held responsible for that in China. “

Azerbaijani press: Meeting of Azerbaijani, Armenian, Russian prosecutor generals takes place (PHOTO)

Politics Materials  18:21

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. A trilateral meeting of the Prosecutor Generals of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia was held in Minsk, on the initiative of the Russian side, General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan told Trend.

Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev noted the significance of joint activities to search for persons missing as a result of the first and second Karabakh wars.

The meeting addressed the importance of mine maps for protecting people’s lives, prevention of illegal trips to Karabakh, as well as underscored the need to continue cooperation in this area.

Azerbaijan’s full compliance with the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020 was also emphasized.

Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov thanked his Azerbaijani and Armenian colleagues for considerable efforts to achieve peace and stability for the benefit of the region’s peoples.

Moreover, the sides discussed future cooperation in the legal sphere and expressed support for strengthening ties.

Turkish press: Peace agreement proposal left unanswered by Armenia: Aliyev

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev is seen with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Baku, Azerbaijan, June 23, 2022 (AA Photo)

Our proposal for a peace agreement has been left unanswered by Armenia, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said Thursday, indicating that he is hoping Yerevan will accept it.

During talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Aliyev said that Azerbaijan’s position aims to establish long-term peace in the region.

“I am confident that our efforts will be positively received by Armenia and the multi-faceted confrontation will end. Our proposal to start work on a peace agreement remains unanswered, but we still hope that this proposal will be accepted,” he said.

In April, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said that Armenia accepted the five-point proposal. In addition, the two countries’ leaders agreed on a working group to prepare a peace agreement, the establishment of a commission on the delimitation of borders and the activities of a working group on transport issues with the involvement of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia following a meeting with European Council President Charles Michel.

Citing positive aspects, Aliyev said that there is an intensification of the work of the trilateral working group chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“We hope that practical steps will be taken to implement the November 2020 Declaration in the context of opening communications, ensuring the unimpeded delivery of Azerbaijani cargo and citizens to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This is a legal obligation of the Armenian side,” he said.

“Unfortunately, more than a year and a half has passed since the end of the Second Karabakh War, but this paragraph of the Declaration has not yet been implemented. I think that it will be possible to take many practical steps within the framework of our concept to normalize the situation as a whole,” Aliyev underlined.

Lavrov, for his part, said Russia is ready to do everything possible to assist in the implementation of the three documents signed by the three leaders in November 2020, January 2021 and November.

He said Moscow is also ready to provide consulting services on the work of two commissions established for the delimitation and demarcation of borders in Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Relations between the two former Soviet countries, Azerbaijan and Armenia, have been tense since 1991, when the Armenian military illegally occupied Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, and seven adjacent regions.

New clashes erupted on Sept. 27, 2020, and the 44-day conflict saw Azerbaijan liberate several cities and over 300 settlements and villages that Armenia occupied for almost three decades.

Yerevan has been gripped by anti-government protests since mid-April, with opposition parties demanding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian’s resignation over his handling of a territorial dispute with Azerbaijan.

After the conflict ended, Azerbaijan launched a massive reconstruction initiative in the liberated Karabakh region.

This year’s first direct flight from Armenia to Tunisia launched

 09:50,

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS. This year’s first direct flight from Armenia to Tunisia is launching today. The flight is operated by Tunisian airline Novelair, which entered the Armenian market in cooperation with the Anriva Tour travel agency.

This year’s first direct flight is starting with media tour within the frames of which several reporters of Armenian media outlets, including ARMENPRESS state news agency, will have an opportunity to get acquainted with tourism opportunities of Tunisia and presented it in details.

Tunisia is yet an undiscovered tourism destination for Armenians. It didn’t have a demand among Armenian tourists because of the absence of direct flights and tourism offers. Tunisia also requires a visa, and in the past obtaining a visa was a difficult procedure because the citizens of Armenia were getting a Tunisian visa from the Embassy of that country in Moscow, Russia. But now, all these problems are solved if an Armenian tourist planning to visit Tunisia buys the packages offered by Anriva Tour, which are sold by all Armenian travel agencies. The visa is provided in the airport like in Hurghada’s (Egypt) case. The flight duration to Tunisia is 4 hours. The flights from Yerevan will be operated once a week. The last flight of this year is scheduled on September 30.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic Tunisia was quite an active tourism destination for many countries of the world. Tunisia is hosting several million tourists every year. The country is famous for both its seaside resort, as well as cultural and historical sites. Tourists visit here to enjoy the Tunisian beaches, to get acquainted with the historical and beautiful sites, do shopping in the Eastern market and also to be in the world’s largest desert – the Sahara. In fact, for Armenians Tunisia could become an alternative tourism destination to Egypt.

What to consider when traveling to Tunisia? What tourism sites to visit in Tunisia? What are the local beaches? What services do hotels offer? What can be bought in Tunisia? The answers of these and other questions will be available soon in our articles.

President Biden waives Section 907 restrictions on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan, again

 10:52,

YEREVAN, JUNE 24, ARMENPRESS. Despite ongoing Azerbaijani aggression against Armenia and Artsakh, President Joe Biden has, yet again, waived Section 907 restrictions on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan, clearing the way for continued U.S. assistance to the corrupt, anti-Armenian Aliyev regime, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).

“President Biden’s decision to green-light military aid to Azerbaijan by waiving Section 907, again, emboldens President Aliyev to continue his illegal imprisonment of Armenian POWs, deadly attacks against Artsakh, and ongoing occupation of sovereign Armenian territory,” said ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian. “The ANCA will continue to work with U.S. Senate and House leaders to zero-out U.S. military aid to Azerbaijan and restrict presidential waiver authority of Section 907.”

During his run for office, on October 14th, 2020, then-candidate Biden stated that the United States must “fully implement and not waive requirements under Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act to stop the flow of military equipment to Azerbaijan.” As President, he first reversed his position on the issue on April 23, 2021 – on the eve of his historic announcement properly recognizing the Armenian Genocide. “American recognition of the Armenian Genocide comes with responsibilities, among them not arming or abetting Azerbaijan’s drive to complete this crime,” commented ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian at the time. “Any action by President Biden that green-lights U.S. aid to the Aliyev regime runs counter to his clear stand and, more profoundly, the spirit of his recent recognition of the Armenian Genocide.”

Section 907, enacted in 1992, establishes statutory restrictions on U.S. assistance to the Government of Azerbaijan “until the President determines, and so reports to the Congress, that the Government of Azerbaijan is taking demonstrable steps to cease all blockades and other offensive uses of force against Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh.” Congress included a Section 907 waiver in the FY2002 Foreign Operations, Export Financing, and Related Programs Appropriations Act. U.S. presidents – Republican and Democrat – have waived Section 907 annually ever since.

The Section 907 waiver and subsequent extensions require a number of certifications, including that granting the waiver “will not undermine or hamper ongoing efforts to negotiate a peaceful settlement between Armenia and Azerbaijan or be used for offensive purposes against Armenia.”
