Newspaper: US ambassador invites leaders of 2 opposition factions in Armenia parliament to meeting

YEREVAN. – Hraparak daily of Armenia writes: Yesterday, US Ambassador Lynne Tracy requested a meeting with the leaders of the two opposition factions in the National Assembly [(NA)], separately, to convey the invitation to meet with the US Congress members.

Let us note that a US Congress delegation will be in Armenia, from June 30 to July 2, and from today already invitations are being sent to the [Armenian] political forces for a meeting [with this delegation].

But using the opportunity, US Ambassador Lynne Tracy also invited the head of the NA [opposition] “Armenia” Faction, Seyran Ohanyan, and the head of the [opposition] “With Honor” Faction, Artur Vanetsyan, to separate meetings to personally pass the invitation to them and, in parallel, to talk about various matters.

Apparently, the ambassador also had a long-term goal: to gauge the mood of the opposition and persuade [them] to weaken the fight against [PM] Nikol Pashinyan, who “enjoys” their “patronage,” so that the latter would go along the road they had outlined and sign all possible documents.
