CivilNet: What I saw at Yerablour Yesterday: Honor and Damnation
We honored the dead yesterday, as hundreds of thousands of marched up the terrible hill to honor our heroes. The scenes of that day will be forever etched into my mind. It was hard not to be overcome by unsettling feelings of pride, shame, anger and solidarity all together combined in one package.
What we honored were the following:
- The crying mothers and stoic fathers at the head of each gravestone, both so strong yet so vulnerable.
- The 19-year-old fallen hero whose family had placed a second, slightly older, photo on his gravestone, and how he looked very much like my 14-year-old. This crushed me more than anything else yesterday.
- The single soldier who stood at attention in honor of his friend who he is now lost for eternity.
- The unbelievable grace and dignity of people paying their respects, few if any unmeasured words were uttered yesterday.
- Entire families and circles of friends and strangers surrounding each of our heroes’ grave sites. I was reminded of the fact that no Armenian lives alone and no Armenian dies alone despite all of our endless faults and perhaps because of death’s fascination with us. We know how life should be lived.
What we damned yesterday:
- The War industry and merchants of death who fill the cemeteries of the world to line their filthy coffers.
- Those in the Armenian diaspora resembling “summers soldiers and sunshine patriots” lining up street corners demanding war when it was not their kids going off to war.
- The social media and fake news warriors who lie, slander and cause division to score cheap political points when what we need is compassion, understanding and unity.
- The corrupt, lazy and incompetent generals who were not worthy of the men and women they lead into battle.
- Myself and my generation who, for the past 25 years, betrayed the young people of today by not building a proper economy, an appropriate military and competent state structures.
All I have written are mere words. Let us dedicate ourselves to the only thing that can honor these lost brave souls; namely, build a functioning, just and prosperous country. All else is empty talk.

1 - Armenians Haven’t Had a Competent Leader
Since Catholicos Khrimian Hyrig
By Harut Sassounian
Publisher, The California Courier
www.TheCaliforniaCourier.com
Khrimian Hyrig is a highly revered clergyman. But, he is also a great
leader who has given wonderful political advice to the Armenian
nation.
His Holiness was born in Van, Western Armenia, in 1820 and became the
Patriarch of Constantinople in 1869. Due to his nationalistic views,
he was forced to resign by the Ottoman government in 1873. He was then
installed as Catholicos of All Armenians in Etchmiadzin in 1893 and
died in 1907.
Khrimian Hyrig is well-known for his participation in the Berlin
Congress in 1878, hoping to receive from the great powers a decision
to force the Ottoman Empire to establish substantial reforms in the
Armenian provinces. He did not accomplish his objective because
Armenians were powerless. He likened the failed Armenian efforts in
the Berlin Congress to his attempt to eat from a bowl with a “paper
ladle,” while other nations had an “iron ladle.”
The highly nationalistic Khrimian Hyrig exhorted his fellow Armenians
to arm themselves: “People of Armenia, of course you understand well
what the gun could have done and can do. And so, dear and blessed
Armenians, when you return to the Fatherland, to your relatives and
friends, take weapons, take weapons and again weapons. People, above
all, place the hope of your liberation on yourself. Use your brain and
your fist! Man must work for himself in order to be saved.”
Khrimian Hyrig’s wise words are just as valid today, particularly
after the latest disastrous defeat Armenians suffered at the hands of
better armed Azerbaijan and Turkey.
A recently surfaced letter by Khrimian Hyrig, written over a century
ago, is as applicable today as it was back then. It is headlined: “If
You Have an Independent State in the Future, Do Everything You Can to
Never, Ever Lose Your Independence.”
Here is Khrimian Hyrig’s meaningful counsel which I have translated
into English:
In the future, I hope you already have an independent state and you
have realized our centuries-old dream. If so, you are now living in
someone’s dream come true; in the dream of millions. I hope you
realize the power of luck that has befallen you.
I would like to know what that dream is like in reality, but since I
cannot see it with my own eyes, let me express my remarks with this
letter. If you read these lines, I will become a part of your present
and my future.
When I went to the Berlin Congress to raise the rights of our people
around the world, only then did I realize that we must first have the
right to have a right. That right is acquired with weapons.
You’ve probably heard of the “iron ladle”. The civilized nations of
Europe, which seemed to us to be law-abiding and fair, gave us nothing
but pity. Russia, which seemed to be a great friend of our people,
other than sympathy, sees and hears nothing but its own interests.
The Armenian people seemed to be like a hungry child outdoors in the
frosty winter, before whom everyone closed the doors of their homes.
The Armenian people were without a care-taker, but the most important
thing I understood was that we should not look for care-takers from
abroad. There, in the future, I am sure, you will not look for foreign
care-takers and you will not pin your hopes on Europeans, Russians or
other states.
If you have an independent state, your only care-taker must be your
own government. I hope the government will not leave you abandoned,
but if it abandons you, what is the point of your independence?
The greatest misfortune of the people is that its own leaders treat
them in the same way as the foreigners. We lived under the yoke of
foreigners for centuries. They treated us cruelly and unfairly. We
sought justice and did not find it. If you have an independent state,
I hope there is justice there.
The Turks treated Armenians very unfairly. Can an Armenian treat
another Armenian the same way? Here, in the past, one of the greatest
tragedies of our people is its ignorance. How can an uneducated people
find their place in this cunning world? The Turkish authorities will
not allow this, as they see their danger in the education of our
people. The greater the education of the people, the more restrained
the government will be.
I devoted my whole life to spreading enlightenment in the Armenian
provinces, but alone I could not do much. If you have a state, educate
our people, spread enlightenment in the provinces. The uneducated
people choose uneducated masters who oppress them and one day the
uneducated people are obliged to choose foreign masters.
At a time when ordinary people are living in the provinces under the
heavy burden of the situation, wealthy Armenians in Istanbul are
living in sheer luxury. They are indifferent to the situation of the
people, as if they were foreigners. The Turkish authorities even ally
with them to keep the people obedient. I hope that the rich in your
country are not so arrogant and are not allied with the bad government
against the people.
In 1876, when the Ottoman Constitution was adopted, the hope for
salvation awoke in us. We thought that the five-hundred-year-old,
infertile and old mother Turkey brought forth to the old world a new,
young constitution, but our hopes were dashed and time showed that
they were beautiful letters written on paper, while the people
continued to suffer. There, in the future, perhaps you also have a
beautiful constitution and laws. I want your laws not to remain on
paper like the Ottoman constitution.
And finally, I want to give you a message. Have ambassadors who
properly voice the demands of the people to the world, and the clergy
will not engage in diplomacy, leaving aside their flock. Have leaders
who love the people, because the Armenian people have suffered a lot
from the hatred of foreign leaders. And never seek foreign
care-takers. And if you have in the future an independent state, do
everything you can to never, ever lose your independence again.
These wise words are an excellent advice to every leader of Armenia
and to the Armenian people worldwide. They are as appropriate today as
they were back then when Armenia was not an independent country. Not a
single person should aspire to lead Armenia without heeding Khrimian
Hyrig’s prudent counsel. Armenia has numerous problems. But the two
most important problems are:
1) Armenia needs to develop a powerful military to fend for itself
without relying on other countries. A weak nation is always subject to
the dictates of more powerful ones, as we witnessed in the recent
Artsakh War. If you are weak, you have no rights and no one cares to
come to your rescue. Unless Armenia becomes more powerful militarily
and economically, it will always be subjugated, particularly since we
are surrounded by vicious enemies who constantly plot our destruction.
2) The next important requirement for our nation is to have a
competent leader, something we rarely had throughout our long history,
and we do not have it today!

2- Mourners Call for Pashinyan’s Resignation During Visit to Yerablur
(Combined Sources)—Thousands of Armenians marched through the capital
Yerevan on Saturday, December 19 to commemorate the soldiers killed in
a six-week war waged by Turkey-backed Azerbaijan against Artsakh.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan led the march, held on the first of
three days of mourning, driving up to the Yerablur military cemetery
to light incense on the graves of fallen soldiers along with other
senior officials.
Pashinyan was escorted into Yerablur under the protection of hundreds
of federal and military police, as well as special agents of the
National Security Service.
The cemetery was filled to its brink. Opponents and supporters of
Pashinyan clashed as he attempted to enter the cemetery.
Footage published on Armenian television showed supporters chanting,
“Nikol Varchabed!” and Pashinyan’s critics shouting “Nikol is a
traitor!” as his convoy passed, escorted by heavy security. Police
dispersed the protesters to clear the way for Pashinyan—one protester,
Shant Charshafjian, said he was kicked by a bodyguard—and his security
guards covered him with shields and umbrellas as protesters attempted
to pelt him with eggs.
The opposition has accused Pashinyan of mishandling the conflict by
accepting a Russian-brokered ceasefire last month, and has been
demanding his resignation. Armenia’s opposition has called on its
supporters to join a national strike on December 22, at the end of the
three-day mourning period, to pressure Pashinyan to resign.
Pashinyan, who swept to power in the Velvet Revolution of May 2018,
has rejected calls to resign.
“The entire nation has been through and is going through a nightmare,”
Pashinyan said in a video address before the memorial march.
“Sometimes it seems that all of our dreams have been dashed and our
optimism destroyed.”
Later in the day, about 20,000 opposition supporters marched across
Yerevan for a memorial church service for the victims.
“Today, in essence, he desecrated Yerablur. He again has put the
country into shock for his power, for his seat. It is already clear
for all that, for this person, his seat is more precious than our
homeland—his seat for him is more precious than the domestic stability
and solidarity in our country,” said Armenian Revolutionary Federation
(ARF) Supreme Body Representative Ishkhan Saghatelyan.
The opposition also gathered at Yerablur on the night of Friday, December 18.
The 16-group opposition includes the ARF, the former ruling Republican
Party, Hayrenik (Homeland) Party, as well as parliamentary opposition
parties, Bright Armenia and Prosperous Armenia.
Saghatelyan stressed the necessity to remove Pashinyan for saving the homeland.
“It is necessary to stop the fall of our country, prevent the
destruction of the state institutions, defend the country’s borders
and security, prevent the social-economic collapse and the
humanitarian disaster the country will face,” he said.

3 - Armenia continues to fight COVID-19 pandemic
The Armenian government has commissioned 600,000 doses of coronavirus
vaccines from World Health Organization-backed COVAX; medical and
social workers, seniors and people suffering from chronic diseases
will be the first to get vaccine shots free of charge, and according
to Gayane Sahakian, the deputy director of the National Center for
Disease Control and Prevention,
COVAX is a global partnership which aims to finance COVID-19 vaccines
to be distributed fairly to more than 180 countries that have joined
it. The Armenian government’s supply contract with COVAX is worth $6
million. The first vaccine which COVAX will make available to the
participating countries is the one produced by the British company
AstraZeneca. It is expected that the manufacturer will deliver it to
COVAX in February or March.
They will be enough to vaccinate 300,000 people (roughly 10 percent of
Armenia’s population). According to the Ministry of Health, there were
18,233 active coronavirus cases in Armenia as of December 21. Armenia
has recorded 154,065 coronavirus cases and 2,656 deaths; 133,176
have recovered.

4- Aliyev Praises Putin for Saying ‘Karabakh is Azerbaijan’;
Declares Conflict ‘History’
(Asbarez)—Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on December 18 praised
his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, for declaring that “Karabakh
is Azerbaijan.” Aliyev also hailed Putin’s earlier statement that the
Karabakh conflict is over and “part of history.”
He elaborated by saying that with his statements, Putin is cautioning
“foreign circles” aiming to derail the November 9 agreement, adding
that “saboteurs are dissatisfied with Russia’s leading role in the
ceasefire.”
During his annual press conference on Thursday, December 17, Putin
said, “from an international legal perspective, all these territories
are an integral part of the Republic of Azerbaijan.” He added that
Armenia, itself, hasn’t recognized Karabakh’s independence and—based
on international legal standpoint—Nagorno-Karabakh is also Azerbaijan.
The Russian leader also stressed that Karabakh’s status should not
change, saying the issue of its “definition” should be solved in the
future.
“I believe this is a very important statement. It is important for
those revanchist forces in Armenia, which are trying to revise the
conditions of the statement of November 9,” Aliyev said, according to
TASS, on December 18 when addressing a virtual conference of CIS
leaders.
“Unfortunately, there are such forces, and this is a very important
signal to those who are trying to prevent the implementation of that
statement. We saw such attempts both during the war and after the
statement was signed,” Aliyev emphasized.
According to the Azerbaijani president, some “foreign circles” that
are dissatisfied with Russia’s leading role in the ceasefire would
similarly like to revise the terms of the deal.
“They tried to muddy the waters in every possible way, and,
unfortunately, they are pushing ahead with their attempts. This is
especially true of the situation in Armenia. [They are seeking] to use
certain levers, various infrastructure that has been created in
Armenia, including the Soros infrastructure, in order to incite unrest
in Armenian society and essentially to derail that statement,” Aliyev
said.
“I would like to once again thank Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin for
such active participation and [his] enormous contribution to the
resolution of this conflict,” he added.
“I also fully agree with Vladimir Putin that whenever we talk about
the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, we must talk about what happened in the
past. This is already history,” Aliyev said during his remarks.
According to Aliyev, the Armenian leadership’s steps and actions were
targeted at escalation of the situation. “As far as the Prime Minister
of Armenia is concerned, while he was in the occupied territories of
Azerbaijan in 2019, he declared that ‘Karabakh is Armenia, period.’
Thus, the Armenian leadership’s steps and actions were targeted at
escalation of the situation and were aimed at inciting the Azerbaijani
party’s response operations and hindering the negotiation process,”
Aliyev stressed.
PM Nikol Pashinyan did not attend the CIS meeting. His office said
that the CIS Council had been informed Pashinyan would be absent as
his father had passed away on December 17.

5- FDA approves Moderna COVID-19 vaccine
(Combined Sources)—On December 18, the FDA granted an emergency use
authorization to Moderna’s experimental COVID-19 vaccine.
It is the second vaccine to be made available to Americans during the
coronavirus pandemic — and the first-ever authorized product for the
10-year-old biotech.
The regulator on Tuesday, December 14 called mRNA-1273 “highly
effective” in a report published in advance of a FDA advisory
committee meeting scheduled for Thursday that will allow a group of
independent medical experts to discuss the risks and benefits of the
still investigational vaccine. This is the final regulatory step
before the FDA decides whether to authorize the vaccine.
Moderna has said its coronavirus vaccine candidate has an efficacy
rate of about 94%, based on data from clinical trials.
Unlike Pfizer Inc., Moderna has never had one of its investigational
products make it as far along in the regulatory process as it has with
mRNA-1273.
The focus of the company’s research and development pipeline is the
same mRNA, or messenger ribonucleuc acid, technology it is using for
the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s been testing mRNA vaccines for cancers like
melanoma and solid tumors, other infectious diseases like Zika, and
some rare, inherited disorders like methylmalonic acidemia. None of
the experimental vaccines have made it through mid-stage clinical
trials except for its COVID-19 vaccine.
The FDA last week authorized the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine one day after
the advisory committee voted 17-4-1 that the benefits of their vaccine
outweigh the risks. (The FDA isn’t required to follow the advice of
the committee but often does.) The “no” votes from four of the
independent medical experts on the committee were attributed to
concern about allowing the vaccine to be administered to teens who are
at least 16 years old.
The authorization made the BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine the first to be
authorized in the U.S. and marked the first time that regulatory
approval of any kind was granted to a mRNA product.
Because Moderna is seeking authorization for people who are at least
18 years old, some analysts expect a unanimous vote in favor of the
FDA authorizing mRNA-1273. “This should not be an issue for Moderna
given the trial and EUA request,” Raymond James analyst Steven
Seedhouse told investors on Wednesday.
Nearly 6 million doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine have been secured
for the United States now that the drug has the OK from the FDA,
health czar Alex Azar said Wednesday.
Azar also said another 2 million doses of Pfizer’s just-approved
vaccine have been allocated for next week.
“As of today, shipments of vaccine will have been delivered to every
delivery site identified by public health jurisdictions for our first
wave of shipments,” the Health and Human Services secretary said at an
Operation Warp Speed press conference.
“I hope that every American has been as heartened as so many of us at
HHS and DOD have been to see heroic health care workers and vulnerable
Americans getting vaccinated this week.”
The government has ordered a total of 200 million Moderna doses to
date, the company said last week, with about 20 million expected to be
delivered by the end of December. The remainder would come in the
first quarter of 2021.
Azar also cheered rising confidence among Americans that the COVID-19
vaccine is safe, citing a new poll from Kaiser Family Foundation that
71 percent will get vaccinated.
“Vaccine confidence is surging,” he said.
On November 14, Moderna’s co-founder Noubar Afeyan spoke to GZero
Media on the growing pushback against a COVID-19 vaccine. “In any
debate, if one side has to offer facts and the other side can offer
doubts and they’re considered of equal value, then the ones who offer
doubts will always have an advantage,” said Afeyan.

RFE/RL Armenian Report – 12/21/2020
Monday,
Putin Praises Russian Peacekeepers In Karabakh
NAGORNO-KARABAKH -- Military vehicles of the Russian peacekeeping force move on
the road outside Lachin, November 29, 2020
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin praised on Monday Russian peacekeeping forces
deployed in Nagorno-Karabakh, saying that they are successfully ensuring the
implementation of a Moscow-brokered agreement that stopped the
Armenian-Azerbaijani war on November 10.
“On November 10 the Russian peacekeepers embarked on a very difficult mission in
Nagorno-Karabakh. Their presence became a guarantee of compliance with the
agreements on cessation of hostilities,” Putin said at a meeting with top
Russian Defense Ministry officials.
Putin pointed out that the 2,000 Russian troops are also ensuring the safe
return of refugees to Nagorno-Karabakh, helping to rebuild the region’s public
infrastructures, demining civilian areas and protecting religious monuments.
“They are risking their lives to bring peace back to that land,” he added,
according to the RIA Novosti news agency.
Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu also mentioned the peacekeeping operation
in his remarks at the meeting chaired by Putin. “Civilians are returning to
their places of residence and rebuilding their homes in completely safe
conditions,” Shoigu said.
The peacekeepers set up 23 observation posts in and around Karabakh shortly
after Putin brokered the Armenian-Azerbaijani ceasefire agreement following six
weeks of heavy fighting in the conflict zone. They are also deployed along the
so-called Lachin corridor connecting Karabakh to Armenia.
The peacekeeping contingent suffered its first casualty last week when a Russian
officer was killed in an explosion during a demining operation near the
Azerbaijani-controlled Karabakh town of Shushi (Shusha).
In Shoigu’s words, the Russian troops have already defused more than 6,000
landmines and pieces of explosive ordnance. They are also helping the warring
sides to exchange prisoners and recover the bodies of soldiers killed in action.
Armenian Mayor Arrested Over Anti-Pashinian Protest
• Naira Bulghadarian
Armenia - Goris Mayor Arush Arushanian.
The mayor of the southeastern Armenian town of Goris was arrested early on
Monday just hours after urging local residents to block a highway and not allow
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian to visit their region bordering Azerbaijan.
The 29-year-old mayor, Arush Arushanian, was among the elected heads of more
than a dozen communities in Syunik province who demanded Pashinian’s resignation
earlier this month. They held him responsible for the Armenian side’s defeat in
the recent war in Nagorno-Karabakh and accused him of putting Syunik’s security
at grave risk with Armenian troop withdrawals completed over the weekend.
Pashinian planned to visit the region on Monday in a bid to reassure its
population.
Arushanian urged Goris residents late on Sunday to join a convoy of vehicles
which he said will block the main regional highway to stop Pashinian from
entering Syunik.
“This is not a political orientation or a partisan initiative,” he wrote on
Facebook. “This is a fight for the dignity, security and physical existence of
the people of Syunik,” he wrote on Facebook.
Arushanian was arrested and taken to Yerevan a few hours later. Armenia’s
Investigative Committee said on Monday afternoon that he is suspected of
organizing an illegal gathering.
Goris’s Deputy Mayor Irina Yolian and other Arushanian supporters condemned the
arrest as politically motivated. Several dozen opposition activists gathered
outside the Investigative Committee headquarters in Yerevan to demand the
mayor’s release.
Arushanian’s lawyer, Armen Melkonian, told RFE/RL’s Armenian Service earlier in
the day that he is being illegally denied access to his client.
Despite Arushanian’s arrest, a highway section near Goris was blocked by several
hundred protesters, forcing Pashinian to cut short his trip to Syunik.
The prime minister was able to visit only one provincial town, Sisian.
Addressing several hundred supporters who gathered there, he condemned the road
blockade and said its organizers want to prevent similar gatherings in Goris,
the provincial capital Kapan and other communities which he said would expose
continuing popular support for him.
Pashinian is facing growing pressure to resign from the Armenian opposition and
many public figures. He has rejected the opposition demands backed by President
Armen Sarkissian and the Armenian Apostolic Church.
Pashinian Cuts Short Visit To Armenian Border Region Amid Protests
Armenia - Vehicles at a blocked section of a road outside Goris, December 21,
2020.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinian faced protests by angry residents of Armenia’s
southeastern Syunik province as he visited it on Monday following further
Armenian troop withdrawals resulting from the Russian-brokered ceasefire in
Nagorno-Karabakh.
The protests forced Pashinian to cut short his visit.
Syunik borders the Zangelan and Kubatli districts southwest of Karabakh which
were mostly recaptured by Azerbaijan during the war. Parts of the districts
close to the provincial capital Kapan and other communities remained under
Armenian control until last week.
Armenian army units and local militias completed their withdrawal from those
areas at the weekend despite protests staged by many local residents. The latter
say that they can no longer feel safe because Azerbaijani forces will now be
stationed dangerously close to their communities.
The troop redeployments also raised questions about the safety of a road
connecting Kapan to another provincial town, Goris. Some of its sections
straddle the Soviet-era Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Armenia’s Defense Ministry and National Security Service (NSS) insisted over the
weekend that the road, which is also part of the country’s vital transport link
with Iran, will remain open for traffic.
A Defense Ministry statement said Russian border guards deployed in Syunik will
guarantee its security. Pashinian announced, meanwhile, that he will tour Syunik
on Monday and try to personally reassure the region’s population.
Armenia -- Defense Minister Vagharshak Harutiunian (R) visits a new Armenian
army post set up in Syunik province, December 18, 2020.
In an extraordinary move, Goris Mayor Arush Arushanian, urged supporters late on
Sunday to block the main regional highway and bar Pashinian from entering the
mountainous region bordering Iran.
“This is not a political orientation or a partisan initiative. This is a fight
for the dignity, security and physical existence of the people of Syunik,” he
said in an appeal posted on Facebook.
Arushanian was arrested overnight. This did not prevent hundreds of his
supporters from gathering in Goris early in the morning. A convoy of vehicles
carrying them was stopped just outside Goris riot police units sent from
Yerevan. Some protesters and police officers briefly clashed at the scene.
Hundreds of other protesters blocked a highway section more than a dozen
kilometers northwest of Goris.
Armenia - Prime Minister NikolPashinian pays tribute to soldiers killed in the
Nagorno-Karabakh war and buried at a military cemetery in Sisian, December 21,
2020.
Arushanian was among the heads of more than a dozen Syunik communities who
issued earlier this month statements condemning Pashinian’s handling of the war
with Azerbaijan and demanding his resignation.
Pashinian condemned the road blockade as a “provocation” when he began his tour
of Syunik in another provincial town, Sisian, in the morning.
Addressing several hundred supporters that gathered in Sisian’s main square, he
claimed that organizers of the protests want to prevent similar gatherings in
Goris and Kapan which he said would expose continuing popular support for him.
The embattled prime minister insisted that he is ready to answer “tough
questions” from the region’s population. “I admit that there are question to
which we have no answers now,” he added.
With the protesters refusing to unblock the roads, Pashinian announced early in
the afternoon that he will not travel to Goris, Kapan and other Syunik towns.
“We will not resort to the use of force especially during this mourning period
[for Armenian victims of the war,]” he wrote on Facebook. “We are returning to
Yerevan.”

Asbarez: ARF Serves The Nation While Pashinyan Does Not
December 21, 2020
ARF and Homeland Salvation Movement marches, activities, and services at Yeraplur
BY GARO R. MADENLIAN
Nikol Pashinyan and his “my-steppers” have managed to dismantle the national agenda, denounce patriotism, divide the country, destroy democracy, degrade national icons and desecrate Artsakh, the Armenian nation’s unified and primary purpose of the modern era; But they evidently had other priorities… During the war they deceived the country, denied sending supplies and troops, diverted the truth, and retreated into a desolate surrender, even though the Armenian nation around the world was united like never before. Then, Pashinyan signed the disastrous agreement surrendering most of the Republic of Artsakh, and apparently parts of Armenia, after allowing thousands of brave men and women to perish and over 10,000 to be wounded.
Nikol and his mis-steppers continue their pattern of deceit and betrayal in their last-ditch effort to retain their seats and an illusion of power by blaming everyone else for this catastrophic situation that they themselves inflicted upon Armenia and Artsakh; they’ve unleashed their fakes, bots and zombies to attack any and all dissenters on social media in their attempts to distort the facts and shift the focus away from their incompetence, a common tactic utilized during the velvet regime change.
They continue to try to dictate the narrative by calling for unity, supposedly to allow time for the nation to grieve, but more likely to continue capitulating further as it seems Nikol has promised much to others. They question protesters motives and whether they were at the front during the war, and stress that the focus should be on the humanitarian crisis, yet they do nothing to help but continue to detract and distract the Armenian people. They attempted a disgraceful PR campaign with photo-ops at Yeraplur utilizing our martyred heroes as a prop to buy time to complete their “plans.” And now they even attack the ARF who called for unity and offered to pool resources during the economic collapse and covid crisis in Armenia, and from the onset of the war.
Yes, We Call For Unity; A Unity Of Purpose Based On The National Agenda
Yes, we call for unity; but unity of purpose based on the national agenda and that which is just and right for Armenia and Artsakh, the citizenry, and the diaspora; but not a failed government serving personal interests that unabashedly hands over large portions of the country, and gives itself unimaginable financial bonuses while the country faces a humanitarian crisis with thousands of displaced and homeless families from Artsakh.
Nikol and his mis-steppers absurdly scream for unity when they encouraged and perpetuated divisions, and ultimately created this calamity. Yet, they now expect the intelligent and proud Armenian people to forget that it was Pashinyan and his incompetent policies and incapable government that projected this painful reality of Nikol’s “new Armenia” with no Artsakh, and possibly no Syunik, on us as they continue to drown our nation deeper into depths of despair.
Thus, unity of purpose for the nation starts with abolishing those like Nikol and his mis-steppers who worked contrary to the national interest, prioritized personal benefit and gains over that of the country, while serving others interests; A unified effort to remove Nikol and his mis-steppers from office is the first step to correct the course, salvage what remains of the Homeland and move forward.
ARF volunteer groups in, or heading to, Syunik in defense of the people
It’s Time to Grieve and Honor the Heroes By Continuing the Struggle
Nikol and his followers ask the people to wait so everyone can grieve; in essence to do nothing while the enemy advances militarily and politically. They continue to sacrifice young and old men and women in Artsakh and Armenia instead of saving the POWs and securing the return of the remains of our fallen heroes. They continue to dishonor our soldiers by further capitulating to the enemy instead of recognizing our heroes and ensuring their sacrifices were not in vain by continuing the collective struggle for justice, self-determination for the people of Artsakh, and basic human rights for all Christian Armenians.
ARF is the Rock That Unifies the Nation
Pashinyan and his followers (fakes, bots and zombies) even have the nerve to attack the ARF, question our patriotism, hurl unimaginable slurs against our 130-year old organization that has, and continues to, tirelessly work for the Armenian nation in the homeland and in the diaspora, furthering the national agenda, securing the survival of a nation in exile with schools and community centers, and continuing the fight for justice for the Armenian people everywhere including Artsakh and Armenia, and even for those that disagree with our policies.
ARF Volunteer Groups Were at the Front in Artsakh and Protesting in Yerevan
Nikol and his mis-steppers attack those rightfully demanding his resignation, asking the protesters where they were during the war, when in fact, many of those same protesters had recently returned from the front lines only to find themselves arrested and beaten when they voiced their disapproval of Nikol and his missteps. A bludgeoning example of Pashinyan’s modern democracy in his “new Armenia.”
ARS continues its mission to assist the people during this humanitarian crisis
When the war first started, the ARF immediately mobilized and sent its first volunteer battalion to the front in coordination with the Defense Ministry. Soon after, the ARF sent additional platoons comprised of its members and supporters, from Armenia and abroad. Of course, those ARF members that were drafted into the military, served there as well. Many did not return, but those that did, joined the protests calling for Pashinyan’s resignation.
ARF Volunteer Groups Remain At The Front Along The New Border In Syunik
After Pashinyan’s initial capitulation, he refused to send troops to border towns and villages where Azeris are laying claim to Armenian lands and amassing their armies such as in Kapan. Most recently in Syunik, Nikol ordered the military and its remaining soldiers to surrender critical defensive posts and retreat, leaving defenseless villagers to fend for themselves and placing Kapan and surrounding villages within the crosshairs of Azeri snipers. Meanwhile the ARF sent volunteer battalions into the region to defend our people and our lands, and to help the civilian population along the border.
ANCA secures emergency aid, recognition ofr Artsakh, partners to return POWs,and investigates US companies
Pashinyan and his mis-steppers continue to give away Armenia one piece at a time while unashamedly talking about establishing economic relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey even before the bodies of our martyrs are returned for proper burials; they promote their agenda for economic prosperity from the Azeri-Turkish-Pashinyan coalition, similar to the Levon Ter Petrosian plan of the 1990s, even while the enemy kidnaps and tortures civilians and soldiers, takes more Armenian lands and ancient villages, and announces it will seize all of Armenia starting in the south where Nikol and his mis-steppers have placed the entire area at risk even before the Azeri-Turkish corridor through Meghri is built.
ARS, Homenetmen, Hamazkayin and Others Respond To The Humanitarian Crisis
During this humanitarian crisis with thousands of homeless and displaced Armenian families from Artsakh, the failed pashinyan regime created a bureaucratic nightmare for those in need to register, jump through a myriad of hoops, and if they’re lucky they may eventually receive a few minuscule crumbs; minimal assistance to barely survive less than a month during the harsh winter.
The ARF, its affiliates and many other community organizations, churches and schools, and countless individuals, contributed funds and supplies to help those in need trying to survive the Pashinyan nightmare.
ANCA action alerts, partners and sanctions against Turkey
The ARS has already sponsored thousands of families and reopened kindergartens in Stepanakert; Hamazkayin is continuing with classes for displaced families and their children in Yerevan; Homenetmen is providing much needed assistance to families in crisis; and still many others have mobilized to join in the efforts to help their brothers and sisters survive during this ongoing existential crisis. Many in Armenia, including a plethora of individuals from the diaspora, have created independent groups to distribute funds and supplies themselves because they do not trust Nikol or his mis-steppers.
Making matters worse, there’s warehouses full of supplies sent from the diaspora not being dispersed to those in need because the government wants to either charge a tax or take the supplies for themselves to use how they deem fit, which most likely will find their way to be sold for personal profit or used to bribe people to support Nikol and his mis-steppers; a government that seized Armenia Fund moneys, gave themselves bonuses, and focused on selfies and photo-ops instead of governing and leading.
ANCA Maintains Relations With Governments and Represents Interests of Armenia, Artsakh and the Diaspora
Armenia’s failed foreign policy and lack of relationships with other governments is also blatantly obvious as Nikol’s representatives are “too busy” or “preoccupied” while ANCA secures funding, humanitarian and medical aid, sanctions against Azerbaijan and Turkey, and works with international partners to secure the return of POWs, calls for investigations into weapons manufacturers and much more.
AYF youth political activism and assistance to wounded soldiers and families
AYF Political Activism and Support for Wounded Soldiers and Their Families
In addition, it’s the AYF (ARF youth) that continues to fundraise for its Wounded Soldiers program to assist the injured and the families of the injured or fallen soldiers; they continue to be politically active, fighting for justice for Artsakh and Armenia as they do hunger strikes, organize protests, rallies, and social media campaigns, and continue a long legacy of fighting for justice for the Armenian nation.
ARF in Armenia and Throughout the World Rightfully Demands Pashinyan Resign
And finally, ARF is one of the organizations in the Homeland Salvation Movement in Armenia that organizes protests and rallies demanding Pashinyan resign to establish a unified, temporary government to salvage the crisis created by Nikol and his mis-steppers, clarify the remaining vague points in the trilateral agreement, return the bodies of our dead, secure the release of remaining POWs, manage the humanitarian crisis, and have free and fair elections within a year.
What Has the ARF Done? What Have Nikol & His Mis-Steppers Done?
Go ahead and ask us what the ARF has done for the past few months or 130 years in the Homeland and in the Diaspora, and what we’ve been doing since the Pashinyan capitulation? Then ask Nikol and his mis-steppers what they’ve done in the past, for how long, and what they’re doing now? Where were they during the war, the capitulation and surrender, and what have they been doing since? Whose interests are they really furthering and protecting?
Then demand a public and transparent trial against Nikol and his mis-steppers to bring to justice those who organized or were complicit in this act of treason with swift and severe punishment to serve as an example and deter any future acts of betrayal against the Armenian nation.
Together We Shall Overcome, Without Nikol & His Mis-Steppers
Together we will rescue, rebuild and recreate our Armenia and Artsakh despite Nikol and his mis-steppers not so hidden agenda and their efforts to destroy that which we hold dear. We shall rise again and flourish as a united nation in the homeland and the diaspora. Together we shall overcome but first, Nikol must resign, so the united, temporary government can start the process to resurrect the national agenda.
