Armenian GM Levon Aronian shared third place with Fabiano Caruana at the 2020 Champions Showdown: Chess 9LX online chess tournament after scoring 5/9 points, the Chess Federation of Armenia said.
At the end of the tournament hosted by the Saint Louis Chess Club from September 11-13, Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura both had 6/9 points and shared first place.
The tournament featured 10 leading players in the world, including Levon Aronian, Garry Kasparov, Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Hikaru Nakamura, Leinier Domínguez Pérez, Wesley So, Peter Svidler and Alireza Firouzja.
The matches were played in Chess 960 style, also known as Fischer Random, with a $150,000 prize fund.
