The court completely satisfied the civil claim of the artistic director of the Opera Theater Konstantin Orbelyan against the former Minister of Culture Nazeni Gharibyan.

On July 24, the session of Konstantin Orbelyan’s lawsuit against the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia started in the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.

Orbelyan demanded to declare Gharibyan’s March 3, 2019 “order to terminate the powers of Konstantin Orbelyan” invalid, reinstate him at work and pay the amount of forced idle time. “I would not go to court if there was a 1 percent doubt that I would not win. I was appointed by law, I was dismissed illegally,” Orbelyan said earlier in a conversation with HJ.

Let’s remind that by the order of Nazeni Gharibyan, acting Minister of Culture, Konstantin Orbelyan was released from the position of the director of the theater on March 29, because according to the law on non-governmental organizations, he cannot hold the position of the theater director and artistic director at the same time.

The day after Gharibyan signed the order, the staff of the Opera Theater protested, after which they met with RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Having received no response from Nikol Pashinyan, Orbelyan appealed to the court.
