A 14 ans, Davit est l’un des grands espoirs des échecs en France. Installé à Marseille, le jeune arménien vit dans l’angoisse d’une possible expulsion de ses parents en situation irrégulière.

A Marseille, un collégien vit le même destin que le héros du film Fahim sorti ces derniers jours au cinéma. Comme lui, il est arrivé en France avec son père après un long voyage depuis l’Arménie. Comme lui, il est passionné par le jeu des échecs depuis sa toute petite enfance. “En Arménie, c’est une matière comme les autres à l’école, explique Davit Avanesyan. _Je joue chaque jour au moins pendant deux heures. J’aime bien attaquer et trouver des plans.” _Et ça marche : au dernier championnat de France des moins de 16 ans, l’adolescent a remporté 9 victoires sur 9 parties ! Aujourd’hui, Davit évolue dans le championnat “Top jeunes” par équipe.
Dans le film, Fahim craint de voir son père renvoyer au Bangladesh. Les destins se ressemblent encore car pendant le championnat de France, le père de Davit a été interpellé dans le tramway à Marseille. Depuis, toute la famille vit dans la crainte d’une expulsion. Voilà pourquoi le club d’échecs du jeune garçon se mobilise aujourd’hui. “On se sent démuni, confie William Azari, la manager général de Marseille Echecs. Les pouvoirs publics ne font rien. Davit est trés important pour nous. On n’imagine pas du tout le voir partir. Dans les compétitions, il défend les couleurs de la France“.

The Order was awarded for his great services provided to the Armenian football and the major achievements.
Pashinyan said it’s a great honor for him to meet today with Nikita Simonyan. He expressed hope to see Simonyan in Armenia soon.

After the Eurasian Economic Union’s intergovernmental council completed its most recent session in Moscow, Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited film icon Armen Dzhigarkhanyan to meet the highly decorated legendary Armenian artist, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
Dzhigarkhanyan, 84, began his career in the film industry as an actor in 1959 and has ever since starred in around 300 movies with his most recent role in 2018. He has received numerous awards and medals by Soviet, Armenian and Russian governments during his career.
In the artist’s Moscow home, PM Pashinyan thanked Dzhigarkhanyan for the hospitality and said he is happy to meet him. “It is a great honor to meet you”, the Armenian Prime Minister said. “Mr. Dzhigarkhanyan, you enjoy great love and popularity not only among Armenians but also other nations and we are proud to have a countryman like you,” he added. PM Pashinyan also asked the actor about his ongoing creative programs, as well as his health.
Dzhigarkhanyan thanked the Prime Minister for visiting him and spoke about the activities of the theater run by him and his other projects.
“I want to visit Armenia, my homeland, very much, I think about it all the time,” Dzhigarkhanyan said.

Asbarez: Armenian Athletes Win Gold, Bronze Medals at World Championships

Armenian athletes garnered gold and bronze medals at various competitions this week. Armenian weightlifter Hakob Mkrtchyan won gold, while Shant Sargsyan and Arthur Avetisyan won bronze medals in chess and gymnastics respectively.
Hakob Mkrtchyan of Armenian Youth Weightlifting Team won gold while setting a record at the U23 European Championship. This year, the championships were held in Bucharest, Romania. With 363 lbs in the snatch and 462 lbs in the clean & jerk, Mkrtchyan became champion of the 196 lbs division, with a total result of 826 lbs. In the same division, the bronze medal was won by Armenia’s Davit Hovhannisyan.
Shant Sargsyan, who was the runner-up of the 2019 World Youth Chess Championship, in Mumbai, India, came in second at the 2019 World Junior Chess Championship in New Delhi, India. He won the silver medal after defeating Spain’s Ruiz Santos in the last round of the event, with a total score of 8.5 points out of 11. Armenia’s Aram Hakobyan was the second runner up.
Arthur Avetisyan of Armenia’s Gymnastics Team won bronze at the 2019 Military World Games – the first international military multi-sport event held in China. Avetisyan scored 14,533 points in the rings competition – an artistic gymnastics event – where he won bronze. Avetisyan’s win marks the second bronze medal won by an Armenian at the 7th Military World Games, with the first being won by freestyle wrestler Mher Markosyan.
