As part of his working visit to New York, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a meeting with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.


The bilateral meeting between Nikol Pashinyan and Antonio Guterres took place after the ceremonial handshake and the signing of a note in the UN guest book by the RA Prime Minister.


The Secretary General of the United Nations welcomed the Prime Minister of Armenia at the headquarters of the United Nations and his participation in the work of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly. Antonio Guterres noted that the UN follows the processes taking place in Armenia, welcomes the democratic developments and is ready to continue supporting Armenia and its people in making progress.


The RA Prime Minister noted that he was happy for the opportunity to meet with the UN Secretary General and thanked the UN Office in Armenia for its support in the parliamentary elections held at the end of last year. Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that this assistance also contributed to holding the most democratic elections in Armenia in the last 2 decades, which were assessed as free and fair by the international community and observers. According to the Prime Minister, the new government of Armenia is committed to implementing a large package of reforms aimed at protecting human rights, ensuring the rule of law, reforming the judicial sector, fighting corruption, ensuring equal opportunities, and Armenia values ​​the support of international partner structures, including the United Nations, in implementing the reforms quickly and successfully.


The Secretary General of the United Nations welcomed the initiative of the Armenian authorities and emphasized that the United Nations fully supports the reform agenda of Armenia. Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed satisfaction with the work with the UN office in Armenia, noting that the government cooperates effectively with the UN representation in Armenia.


The Prime Minister of Armenia and the Secretary General of the United Nations also exchanged thoughts on the settlement process of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, global challenges, international and regional developments.
