Speaking about the CSTO summit held in Astana on November 8 and the fact of not electing the general secretary of the organization, the spokesman of the Republican Party of Armenia, NA deputy speaker Eduard Sharmazanov, stated that it is “another clear failure of Pashinyan’s government”.

“In fact, November 8 passed, but Armenia did not have a general secretary in the CSTO. One thing becomes clear. During Pashinyan’s rule, Armenia is consistently losing its security positions. Moreover, it is openly stated that the post of Secretary General will be given to Belarus.

And what will happen? Let me say, to cover up our own failure, I think we will witness, so to speak, a fight against corruption, new revelations or another division of blacks and whites. Mr. Prime Minister, fight again against corruption and any illegality, but not at the expense of the security of Armenia and Artsakh,” the statement said.

The statement states that the number one challenge of Armenia was and remains the strengthening of the security of Armenia and the fair and pro-Armenian solution of the Artsakh issue.

“Having given that normal and educated impression, Aliyev once again talked about returning some territories, Artsakh being Azerbaijani land, extracting concessions from Armenia. I was waiting for your response, but instead of your bold and decisive speech, I got silence. It is worrisome,” said the RPA deputy’s statement.

At the CSTO summit held in Astana on November 8, it was not possible to choose a secretary general: RA insisted that its candidate continue to serve, some of the members that Belarus should take over the position. Therefore, the matter was postponed until December 6. President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev believes that the representative of Belarus will become the Secretary General of the CSTO.

“A collision arose due to the fact that the RA representative Yuri Khachaturov, who was the general secretary of the organization, was recalled. According to the charter, Armenia is followed by Belarus,” Nazarbayev told reporters in Astana at the end of the CSTO summit.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
