An exhibition devoted to the Armenian Genocide opened Friday in
Nicosia, the capital city of Cyprus.

Visiting Armenian National Assembly (NA) President Galust Sahakyan,
and Cypriot House of Representatives President Yiannakis Omirou
delivered opening remarks at the event.

Sahakyan noted that Armenian Genocide Centennial commemorations are
held in numerous cities around the world. In his words, however, these
functions are not solely remembrance events, and they incorporate
several directions, whose synopsis has become the slogan: “I remember
and I demand.” As per the NA speaker, this slogan is a universal
message to condemn the Armenian Genocide and all genocides that were
ever perpetrated.

Omirou, for his part, noted that the civilized world is not apathetic
toward the horrible crimes against humanity, and the international
press had condemned Turkey’s respective demeanor even back in the last
decade of the 19th century. He added that Cyprus likewise was not
indifferent toward the tragedy of the Armenian people.

The head of the parliament of Cyprus also noted that his country
supports the fraternal Armenian people’s efforts to achieve Armenian
Genocide recognition by the international community, and to restore
justice.

To note, the exhibition items were provided by the Armenian Genocide
Museum-Institute in Yerevan, the capital city of Armenia.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
