Rush Limbaugh Claims Jeb Bush Wants To Turn All Of America Into Miam

RUSH LIMBAUGH CLAIMS JEB BUSH WANTS TO TURN ALL OF AMERICA INTO MIAMI

Jeb Bush’s fledgling not-quite-campaign has a lot of problems, not
the least of which is that conservative radio talk show hosts don’t
particularly like the guy. That includes the king blowhard himself,
Rush Limbaugh.

The grandaddy of conservative talk took to the airwaves on Wednesday
to claim, in great horror, that a Jeb Bush presidency would result in
all of America being turned into Miami. If you’re suspecting that’s a
stealth argument to stir up anti-Hispanic fears amongst his listeners,
well, you’re probably right.

See also: Jeb Bush Has 99 Problems: No Really, Here They Are

Limbaugh, of course, isn’t particularly known for coming up with his
own original arguments, and instead tends to rant and expound on the
thoughts of others. In this case he centers his segment on a recent
National Review article by Mark Krikorian, and he reads lengthy
segments of it on air.

Krikorian agrees with Rudy Giuliani’s recent comments that Barack
Obama doesn’t really love America. He thinks that Obama might like
America OK, but he doesn’t really love it on an emotional level. He
contends that Obama is the first “post-American” president, and that
Jeb Bush would be the second.

Why? Because, basically, Bush has turned his back on his white roots
by taking up in the Cuban-American-heavy Miami:

Despite what some might say, the problem here is not that Jeb’s wife
is from Mexico, their kids grew up speaking Spanish, and they live in
a Latin American cultural enclave in the U.S. — it’s that he wants
to use government policy to “fix” America by making it more like Miami.

If Jeb had so little affection for and grounding in his own heritage
that he wanted to assimilate into a Latin-American milieu, that’s a
perfectly legitimate choice; I know a number of non-Armenians who’ve
basically chosen to assimilate into Armenian life. But to try to impose
that personal choice on the nation as a whole is beyond the pale. We
don’t need another president who thinks Americans are defective and
need to be fixed by the State.

Limbaugh read that particular passage almost word-for-word on his show.

He then goes on to basically restate the Armenian-American Krikorian’s
argument in his own words.

“So Jeb thinks America is flawed, and he wants it to be something
else,” says Limbaugh. “He wants it to be more like the place he
chose to live, the Latin-American enclave in Miami. But to take that
personal emotional choice and to impose it on the nation as a whole
is beyond the pale. And Obama is doing the same thing. They have
different reasons, but their desired results are the same. I don’t
know how to react to some of these things that Jeb is quoted here as
saying. It’s clear that emotion is behind this, not reason.”

Both the article and Limbaugh’s rant also make reference to a 2013
discussion Bush had at the 92nd Street Y in New York in which he
espoused the positive traits of immigrants. Bush claimed immigrants
are “more entrepreneurial, they set up more business, they buy more
homes, they’re more family-oriented, they work in jobs that in many
cases are jobs that have gone unfilled.”

The full transcript of Limbaugh’s segment can be found
here.

Krikorian and Limbaugh’s message isn’t hard to decipher. They think
that somehow a man who is a member and continues to benefit from the
privilege of one of the most powerful WASP families in American history
has somehow turned his back on his white heritage by moving to a ritzy
suburb known for its mansions, manicured lawns, and strict zoning laws,
and has chosen to assimilate with Latin American culture, somehow. And
he will force the rest of the nation to, in turn, assimilate to Latin
American culture by being nice to immigrants.

The bigotry and ignorance here is palpable.

ANKARA: Gulenist Police Chief Arrested Over Armenian Journalist’s Mu

GULENIST POLICE CHIEF ARRESTED OVER ARMENIAN JOURNALIST’S MURDER

Daily Sabah, Turkey
Feb 27 2015

DAILY SABAH
ISTANBUL

Ramazan Akyurek, the former head of the Turkish National Police’s
intelligence unit, who is believed to have ties with the Gulen
Movement, was arrested on Friday on the order of an Istanbul court
one day after he was detained as part of an inquiry into the murder
of Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink

Akyurek, who was the police chief in the northern Black Sea city
of Trabzon when Dink was assassinated in 2007 by a Trabzon youth,
was arrested on Friday after he was brought before a court in Istanbul.

Akyurek, who later served as the head of the National Police’s
intelligence unit, faces charges of negligence for failure to act
despite knowing that Dink would be murdered by a teenager motivated
by a police informant.

A new investigation into the murder plot has revealed police officers
and prosecutors linked to the shady Gulen Movement engaged in a
cover-up to help the murder suspects.

A mustachioed Akyurek entered the sprawling court complex in
Istanbul’s Caglayan district on Friday morning. The police chief,
who loudly denied allegations against him in media outlets and TV
channels linked to the Gulen Movement, was quiet as he was escorted
into the courthouse by police officers. He only muttered to a throng of
journalists that surrounded him “forgive any wrong I’ve done to you.”

He refused to testify at the police station to which he was initially
brought on his lawyers’ advice. After a four hour interrogation by
the chief prosecutor, he was referred to the court and the prosecutor
requested judges to order his arrest on charges of committing a
premeditated murder through an act of negligence, forgery in official
documents, gross misconduct for failing to warn authorities about
the murder and for reportedly destroying electronic logs regarding
the murder investigation.

Following a removal of the ban on the investigation of public
officials in relation to the case in June 2014, the investigation
into the murder of Dink – who was shot outside the offices of Agos
daily where he served as editor-in-chief – was renewed. This led to
officials, including the former Istanbul police chief, deputy governor
and other high-ranking officials in the city at the time of the murder,
being summoned for questioning.

The prosecutors also interrogated former police intelligence director
Sabri Uzun and intelligence chiefs Akyurek and Ali Fuat Yılmazer.

The Gulen Movement, which is run by U.S.-based cleric Fethullah
Gulen, is accused of running a “state within a state” through its
infiltrators in the police and judiciary. The movement is reportedly
behind controversial trials that have seen the imprisonment of military
officers, journalists and critics of the group.

An investigation by previous prosecutors who worked on the murder case
revealed that they dismissed allegations about Akyurek and Yılmazer.

Muammer AkkaÃ…~_ was the last investigator of the murder who assumed
the case in 2010. AkkaÃ…~_, the chief prosecutor in the infamous
Dec. 25 probe that sought to discredit the government by implicating
those close to the government and the Justice and Development Party
(AK Party) with charges of corruption, deliberately stalled the case
according to media reports.

AkkaÃ…~_ and other prosecutors did not investigate the allegations
that Akyurek deleted electronic records and telephone logs within the
National Police that would help shed light on the murder, according to
reports in the Turkish media. The prosecutors also did not investigate
similar allegations towards Yılmazer. Security camera footage at the
time of the murder was not properly examined, and the role of police
intelligence officials and gendarmerie officers both in Istanbul and
in the northern province of Trabzon, where the suspects hailed from
and where they allegedly planned the murder, were not investigated.

The prosecutors reportedly did not look into the phone conversation
logs of the suspects well enough to establish their connection with
each other and other likely suspects, and officers at the Istanbul
police department hid evidence regarding the suspects’ connections.

The prosecutors are also accused of not investigating contradictions
in the testimonies of the murder suspects.

Sabri Uzun, who was head of the National Police Intelligence
Department, had claimed his subordinates hid tip-offs warning against
the murder of Dink. Questioned about the murder, Uzun said Yılmazer
hid an intelligence report from him regarding a plot to kill Dink.

Yılmazer, who was the predecessor of Akyurek as the head of
the intelligence unit, is currently in prison for a separate case
involving illegal wiretapping, while Akyurek was removed from duty amid
a major reshuffle in Turkish law enforcement last year. Earlier, he was
suspended over allegations of destroying and leaking secret documents
regarding the Dink investigation. Testifying to prosecutors recently,
Akyurek admitted that he was aware of a planned murder regarding
Dink after one of his subordinates presented him an intelligence
report. He told prosecutors he did not remember the details, and
thought that the Istanbul and Trabzon police directorate had “taken
[the] necessary measures.”

Ogun Samast, who is currently in an Istanbul prison for Dink’s
murder, told prosecutors that the Trabzon police helped him and his
accomplices, and said Yılmazer and Akyurek had knowledge of the plot
in his new testimony last year.

Former intelligence unit chief Ramazan Akyurek was arrested on Friday
over an investigation into the 2007 killing of Turkish-Armenian
journalist hrant dink.

The former police chief, who was the head of the trabzon Police
intelligence department at the time of Dink’s murder, was detained
on Thursday as part of the investigation.

Akyurek was suspended from duty in March following accusations of
negligence in preventing Dink’s murder.

His name has come up frequently during the trial of suspects accused
of plotting to kill Dink. Akyurek had been accused of having links
to Erhan Tuncel, who is a suspect accused of soliciting Ogun Samast
to murder Dink.

Dink, the editor-in-chief of the Agos newspaper, was assassinated
in broad daylight outside his office on Jan. 19, 2007. He was shot
and killed by an ultra-nationalist teenager, Samast. The hit man
and 18 others were brought to trial. Since then, the lawyers for
the Dink family and the co-plaintiffs in the case have presented
evidence indicating that Samast did not act alone. Another suspect,
Yasin Hayal, was given life in prison for inciting Samast to murder.

After the Supreme Court of Appeals partially reversed a lower court’s
verdict, which said there were no criminal rings behind the murder,
a re-trial kicked off in October 2014, in which the suspects are
charged with being members of a criminal ring.

On Jan. 12, the prosecutor of the case issued arrest warrants for
Trabzon Police Department Assistant Commissioner Ozkan Mumcu and
another police officer, Muhittin Zenit, on charges of negligence and
misconduct in Dink’s murder.

ANKARA: Congressman Urges Colleagues Not To Sign Pro-Armenian Legisl

CONGRESSMAN URGES COLLEAGUES NOT TO SIGN PRO-ARMENIAN LEGISLATION

Daily Sabah, Turkey
Feb 27 2015

DAILY SABAH

As the 100th anniversary of the 1915 incidents during World War I
nears, the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania’s 9th congressional
district urged congressmen not to take sides in the historical dispute
between Turkey and Armenia on the 1915 incidents and not to sign the
pro-Armenian legislation.

“I urge you to refrain from cosponsoring a resolution taking sides
in a historical dispute concerning events which occurred a hundred
years ago on the other side of the world. … I urge you to think
twice before signing on the legislation that could cause significant
damage to our relations in the region,” Representative Bill Shuster
said in a letter to the congressmen.

Referring to the pro-Armenian legislation, Shuster said that Congress
is being asked to officially sanction the events as the Armenian
“genocide” while ignoring the suffering of all other former Ottoman
people.

He continued his letter by saying that the U.S. should focus on closing
the gap between Turkey and Armenia that has existed for a century and
easing the tension between the countries instead of adding fuel to the
“1915 events” flames.

Shuster said that adopting the resolution would undermine U.S.

interests and cause the U.S. to lose one of its last allies in the
region that has collaborated in the fight against the Islamic State
of Iraq and al-Sham [ISIS] in close cooperation with the anti-ISIS
coalition led by the U.S.

“Turkey’s geostrategic position between Europe and the Middle East has
made the country an important NATO ally and an essential partner for
both the United States and European countries in combating extremism
in the region. As Lebanon, Syria, Armenia and Iraq continue to deepen
their political and economic partnerships with Iran and Russia, the
United States’ leverage in the region is rapidly diminishing. Adopting
the resolution would alienate a close ally and damage U.S. interests,”
he added.

U.S. Representative Yvette Clarke for the 9th Congressional District
of New York and Congressman Lee Zeldin announced that they would not
support the pro-Armenian legislation.

The year 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of both what Armenia
calls genocide and the Battle of Gallipoli in Canakkale province,
which marked a turnaround in favor of the Ottomans during World War
I against the Allied Forces.

Relations between Turkey and Armenia have historically been poor,
rooted in incidents that took place during World War I. The Armenian
diaspora and government describe the 1915 events as “genocide” and
have asked for compensation. Turkey says that although Armenians died
during forced relocations, many Turks also lost their lives in attacks
carried out by Armenian gangs in Anatolia. In April 2014, then Prime
Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan offered his condolences for the Armenian
deaths that occurred in 1915, a first for a Turkish statesman.

Akyurek was charged with negligence on the job at the time of the
Turkish-Armenian journalist’s murder.

ISTANBUL

Former head of Turkey’s police intelligence, Ramazan Akyurek, has
been sent to prison late Friday over the murder of Turkish-Armenian
journalist Hrant Dink, according to police sources.

Akyurek had been in police detention since Thursday on charges of
negligence on the job at the time of Dink’s murder.

Earlier Friday, the former intelligence chief was taken to Istanbul’s
Caglayan court for questioning after his lawyer said his client would
not answer questions at the Ankara police department.

The Istanbul public prosecutor’s office questioned Akyurek for four
hours at the court and charged him of “causing death by negligent
behavior,” “forgery of official documents,” and “malfeasance.” The
prosecutor’s office urged the court to order his arrest.

Dink was one of the founders of the bilingual Turkish-Armenian weekly
Agos. He was assassinated outside his office in Istanbul on Jan. 19,
2007.

His murderer, Ogun Samast, who was 17 years old at the time, was
tried and convicted in 2011.

BAKU: So-Called Elections In Occupied Karabakh Is Illegal – Azerbaij

SO-CALLED ELECTIONS IN OCCUPIED KARABAKH IS ILLEGAL – AZERBAIJANI FOREIGN MINISTRY

The Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency

27.02.2015 [14:19]

Baku, February 27, AZERTAC

According to the reports circulated by the mass media outlets of the
Republic of Armenia, the so-called “elections” to the “parliament”
of the puppet separatist regime are planned to be held in the
Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 3 May 2015.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan
issued a statement in this regard. The so-called “elections” to the
“parliament” of the puppet separatist regime planned to be held in
the Nagorno-Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan on May 3,
2015 is illegal, spokesman for the Azerbaijani foreign ministry Hikmet
Hajiyev said.

“The holding of “elections” is a clear violation of the Constitution
of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the norms and principles of
international law, and, therefore, shall have no legal effect
whatsoever,” he said. “This “elections” are aimed at undermining the
negotiation process on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement.”

“In 1993, the United Nations Security Council adopted resolutions
822 (1993), 853 (1993), 874 (1993) and 884 (1993), condemning the
occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan and reaffirming respect
for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of
Azerbaijan and the inviolability of its internationally recognized
borders,” the Azerbaijani foreign ministry’s statement says.

“In those resolutions, the Security Council also confirmed that the
Nagorno-Karabakh region is part of Azerbaijan, and demanded immediate,
complete and unconditional withdrawal of the occupying forces from
all the occupied territories of Azerbaijan. Other international
organizations have adopted a similar position.

“The Republic of Azerbaijan once again calls on the Armenian
side, instead of wasting time and misleading its own people and
the international community, to cease its policy of annexation
and ethnic cleansing and to engage constructively in the conflict
settlement process and comply with its international obligations,
the statement says.

BAKU: Baku Slams Separatist Regime In Nagorno-Karabakh Over Election

BAKU SLAMS SEPARATIST REGIME IN NAGORNO-KARABAKH OVER ELECTION SCAM

AzerNews, Azerbaijan
Feb 27 2015

27 February 2015, 17:10 (GMT+04:00)
By Mushvig Mehdiyev

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry slammed forthcoming “parliamentary
elections” in the so-called Nagorno-Karabakh republic scheduled for
May 2015.

“The so-called parliamentary elections of the puppet separatist regime
are illegal,” declared Hikmet Hajiyev, the spokesman for the Foreign
Ministry on February 27.

“Those planned elections are clearly a violation of Azerbaijan’s
Constitution and stand against the principal of international law.

Therefore, such elections will never have any significant impact,”
he added.

Hajiyev further emphasized that this move mainly aimed to undermine
peace talks and prevent any breakthrough in the resolution of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The so-called authorities in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno-Karabakh region
have scheduled “parliamentary elections” to be held on May 3, 2015,
read a statement from the illegitimate “NKR” president’s press office.

Previous parliamentary “elections” in Azerbaijan’s occupied lands
were held on May 23, 2010, at which point Azerbaijan appealed the
United Nations Organization.

Puppet rulers in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan have always
seized every possible opportunity to hinder, thwart and sabotage
peace negotiations.

In July 2012, with the support of the Armenian authorities
the so-called regime in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories held
“presidential elections”.

Along with Azerbaijan, Turkey has strictly condemned such actions
stressing they stood in breach of international law.

Back in 1992, following a violent and bloody conflict, Armenia occupied
20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and
seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs
of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently
holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has yet to comply with the UN Security Council resolutions
calling for the liberation of all occupied territories.

Armenian Genocide: "We Cannot Forget"

ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: “WE CANNOT FORGET”

The Collegian CSUFresno
Feb 26 2015

Posted by: Megan Ginise Feb 26, 2015

Dr. Sergio La Porta, professor in the armenian studies program,
concluded this years’ Fresno State Talks last night in the Satellite
Student Union, with a lecture on the importance and relevance of the
Armenian Genocide and how it shaped world civilization today.

Entitled “Who Cares? Genocide, Historical Memory, and Moral
Responsibility,” La Porta’s lecture emerged from his own personal
history with Armenian studies as a graduate of Harvard University.

Lucy Garayan, a senior psychology student, joked that although La
Porta’s last name did not end in a “ian” representative of the Armenian
heritage, his expertise and love of the field and the people inspired
his students through his lectures and knowledge to learn more about
the culture.

“At the time, I thought Armenian role in history was minute,” Garayan
said. “Armenia today is the size of Maryland, however, it was in Dr.

La Porta’s class that I learned about a rich and powerful history. I
felt it was my duty to learn about my own culture and history, but
in fact it is the duty of all Armenians to study our history and
language. It is through knowledge that we can keep our traditions
alive.”

La Porta began his lecture with an introduction into the history of
the Armenian Genocide, which began on April 24, 1915, when the Young
Turk regime of the Ottoman Empire arrested 250 Armenian intellectuals
who were soon murdered after their seizure.

In the next four months, La Porta said, the regime murdered 800,000
Armenian citizens of the empire, at a rate of 200,000 people a month,
comparable to the Rwandan Genocide. By 1923, approximately 1.5 million
people had been murdered by the Young Turk forces, and over 500,000
people displaced.

“Now, 100 years later, this crime against humanity, this genocide,
remains unrecognized by the Republic of Turkey,” La Porta said. It’s
historical reality is consistently questioned, not only insulting
the memory of millions of people, but also denying them historical
justice and their inherent human dignity.”

La Porta spoke about local events commemorating the Armenian Genocide,
including the memorial currently being built on campus set to be
revealed on April 23 and coordinated with the Republic of Armenia.

Other local events include the Armenian Genocide Centennial Committee,
a philharmonic concert April 25, the current art exhibit at Fresno
Art Museum, and a town hall meeting on March 16.

La Porta noted the similarity of the Armenian Genocide to that of
the Holocaust during World War II. He explained that there was
a specific organization employed for the mass extermination of
Armenians, legalizing and putting into effect laws which authorized
the deportation of Armenians and seizure of their property-millions
of acres of land and possessions, which La Porta said led to part of
the modern economic basis of Turkey today.

“We realize that this is not a random set of killings, but an organized
attempt to eliminate a portion of the population,” La Porta said.

He spoke of the horrors of the genocide, in which modern technology
such as telegraphs and railways were used. Armenians were transported
in packed cars where they often suffocated to death.

“To add insult to injury they were often forced to buy their ticket
first, then packed into these cars, and often the train would stop
in the desert and have them taken out and murdered,” he said.

To this day, La Porta says, the Armenian Genocide fails to be
recognized by the Republic of Turkey.

“The argument that they make was that many Turks died during World
War I, as if this negates the atrocities that occurred,” La Porta said.

“Yes, a lot of Turks did die in World War I, and a lot of Armenians
died as well. The difference was a lot of Turks died fighting in
World War I, a lot of Armenians died because they were executed.”

But La Porta said that from the destruction, there is still an
opportunity to show a better side of human nature through the
internationalization of the Armenian Genocide. Through American
aid and relief, La Porta called this one of the greatest moments in
american history.

“People often say that’s not that important, nobody remembers it,
nobody knew about it. This is completely untrue. People knew about
the Armenian Genocide very well. The New York Times had over 200
articles on the Armenian Genocide between 1915 and 1922.”

According to La Porta, between 1916 and 1930, The American Committee
for Relief in the Near East (today known as the Near Eastern Relief
Fund) raised 116 million dollars in relief aid for Armenians and
others similarly affected, (equivalent to 1.5. billion dollars today.)
La Porta said that this was the largest relief effort ever launched
in the United States.

The effects of the Armenian Genocide, La Porta said, are still very
alive and present today.

“It destroyed a vital sector of Armenia, also caused the Armenian
diaspora, part of the economic basis for the economy of Turkey, and
allowed the Republic of Turkey to form its modern capital. We see that
this process of nationalism and of purity beginning with the Armenian
Genocide. We can chart its progress in the early 20th century.”

He says that remembrance may be crucial in honoring those that
were lost.

“Never again, Armenians will never again allow themselves to be
executed in the way that happened in 1915. The Armenian Genocide
continues to penetrate current political conflicts in the middle east.”

Amongst many stories of the survivors, La Porta says there is no
debate about the reality of the Armenian genocide, and the reality
of who was responsible.

“The genocide is a historical fact,” La Porta said. “It’s important to
remember that they didn’t just disappear. They didn’t just die. They
were killed by an agent, and that agent was the Ottoman Turkish regime
of the Young Turks. This moral distancing is understandable because
it’s uncomfortable to think that people could do this to one another.

Yet we need to be honest about it. We need to say who did it. We
need to be clear about who did it to overcome the trauma of the
genocide itself.”

La Porta concluded his lecture by demonstrating the power of memory.

“Actually remembering is not stopping us from going forward,” he said.

“It’s the catalyst that allows us to engage in acts of humanity.”
