WINNERS OF COMPETITION FOR VOCAL AND INSTRUMENTAL SONGS DEVOTED TO ARMENIAN GENOCIDE CENTENNIAL HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED

YEREVAN, 10 FEBRUARY, ARMENPRESS. The results of the competition for
vocal and instrumental songs dedicated to the 100thanniversary of
the Armenian Genocide have been summed up. As the Union of Composers
of Armenia reports to “Armenpress”, 11 composers had applied to
participate in the competition. The president of the jury was Merited
Art Figure of the Republic of Armenia, composer Vahram Babayan.

By the jury’s decision, there were two winners, including young
composers Edmond Makaryan and Jirair Shahrimanyan. and no composer
received the second or third prize. Jirair Shahrimanyan’s song is
called “In memory…” and is for vocals, a string quartet and the
piano, while Edmond Makaryan’s song is called “I promise not to
think about suicide from now on” and is for vocals, the clarinet,
two cellos and a contrabass (a recording was also used).
