by DONITA NAYLOR, JOURNAL STAFF WRITER

Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian, the entire City Council and three new
members of the School Committee will be sworn in Tuesday evening.

The ceremony, at the Ocean State Theatre, 1245 Jefferson Blvd., will
begin at 7 p.m. with the Pawtuxet Rangers militia members, fife and
drum corps and honor guards, along with honor guards from the Warwick
fire and police departments and the Homenetmen Scouts of Sts.
Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church.

Master of ceremonies will be Councilman Steven Colantuono. His
daughter, Sophie, will sing the national anthem. Kathleen and
Elizabeth Vitale will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and Rick
Benjamin, the state poet laureate and a Warwick resident, will read an
original poem.

The invocation will be given by the Rev. James Bocchino of St.
Barnabas Episcopal Church, prayers for public service will be offered
by the Very Rev. Gomidas Baghsarian of Sts. Vartanantz Armenian
Apostolic Church and by Rabbi Leslie Gutterman of Temple Beth-El, and
the benediction will be given by the Rev. Robert Marciano of St. Kevin
Roman Catholic Church.

Family Court Chief Judge Haiganush Bedrosian will swear the mayor in,
with Paige and Savannah Lenney holding the Avedisian family Bible.

Avedisian will swear in council members Thomas Chadronet, Camille
Vella-Wilkinson, Joseph Solomon, Edgar Ladouceur, Donna Travis,
Kathleen Usler, Joseph Gallucci, Steven Merolla and Colantuono; and
school committee members Eugene A. Nadeau, Mary T. Medeiros and
Bethany Furtado.

Also participating will be Cora McAuliffe, who will sing, and the
Providence Police Pipes and Drums.

The public is invited. There is no charge, but participants are asked
to bring a canned good to benefit the Westbay Marketplace food pantry.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
