In the Shadow of the Sultan (Sunday, January 4)

A fascinating book recounting the epic journey of a boy and his dog
will be launched in Nicosia on Sunday, Janaury 4.

‘In the shadow of the Sultan’ by R.P. Sevadjian will be presented at
the Pharos Foundation’s Shoe Factory venue at 5pm and include a book
signing and refreshments.

‘In the Shadow of the Sultan’ is set during the summer of 1896 in the
Ottoman Empire of Abdul Hamid II. It sells the story of an Armenian
boy living comfortably with his family until events lead to his
setting off on a long journey with his dog at his side.

Along the way he meets various characters, some kind, some hostile,
some helpful and some helpless; and forms a better understanding of
the history of his people.

The Shoe Factory is situated at 304, Ermou St., Nicosia. Visit

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
