Co-Chairs can’t force parties to do anything, U.S. Ambassador says

December 19, 2014 16:50

Yerevan/Mediamax/. U.S. Ambassador John Heffern said today that the
U.S. is ready to cooperate in any area where Armenia will demostrate a
political will.

He noted that there may be mutual interests, for instance, in the
security field.

“Being a CSTO member, Armenia simultaneously partners with NATO
benefitting from both directions. I think after Armenia’s membership
to the Eurasian Union, the West will continue cooperating with Armenia
on mutually beneficial terms in the economy field”, said the U.S.
Ambassador.

Touching upon the steps toward settlement of Nagorno Karabakh
conflict, John Heffern noted that the OSCE Minsk Goup Co-Chairs can’t
force the sides to do anything.

“‘The Co-Chairs do not tell the parties what to do. Their role is to
urge the sides to demostrate political will and find flexible
solutions reaching concessions”, he concluded.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
